Rock Butter
Properties
Material Characteristics
In nature it looks like white and blue sand gathered around the butter rocks that make it. You can pick it up easily with hands but it does leave a slight oily residue on the skin. If it gets in contact with a nearby lake ( or just water) it can clump into small "boulders" which can be harvested, cleaned and then directly used.
Geology & Geography
The butter rocks as they are known are located on 17 places all over the planet of Terra. They can be found in caves that start in a coniferous forest and have not more than three tunnels going downward towards the sea level. The tunnels should all gather in one and exit on the level of a beach. The butter rocks can be found in the smaller "branch" tunnels connecting the main three. They look like white and blue stalactites & stalagmites that would either move up & down or very slightly in a circle - in both cases causing grinding of the top layer and turning it into buttery dust.
Another possible spot that they can be found in are underwater caves' air pockets - which are much easier to locate but not every pocket has them.
Life & Expiration
The butter rocks grow their entire lives, emerging from underground veins containing specific elements that form the edible substance. There are two places in the world where butter-rock-veins used to exist and after their recent drought they've been turned into a research topic. All the rest are still functional. From what is known up to the moment one vein can work and create the special crystals for a bit over 27 years. It is unknown if there are veins yet to be discovered.
History & Usage
Everyday use
Butter from Butter rocks is used in most elite restaurants as main ingredient in most desserts and with meats similar to the taste of turkey. It's seen as somewhat of a luxury and an acquired taste as it definitely IS different than butter coming from an animal's milk and is harder to get.
Refinement
Upon gathering - in dust or clump form - it gets through a magical sifter that removes any and all dirt and potentially harmful particles. It is then placed in short wooden crates filled with fresh and cold cave lake water (the best results are achieved if it's placed in the water of a lake (or other water source) in the tunnels the butter itself was found) - for transportation. Once in the target location, the butter gets taken out of the crates and into big freezers where it forms nice big blocks. They are later cut into smaller ones and packaged & sold.
