Karrion Falcon

"A shrill cry broke the silent night. A bird, with wings easily as big as the wolf in front of her, dove from the tree tops and lunged at the wolf with large, sharp claws."
Found only on the island of Karrion, in the island kingdom of Arion, Karrion Falcons are one of, if not the, largest bird species on the Eastern Continent. Karrion is a dangerous place, surrounded on all sides by cliffs and hidden death traps. Those stupid enough to try and scale the cliffs will see the Falcon's nests and most certainly end up dead.   Karrion Falcons are labeled as Critically Endangered, as any that leave the island are caught by poachers and sold as 'exotic pets' to those with enough money.

Basic Information

Anatomy

The Karrion Falcon is a relatively large bird species that is similar to the real-life gyrfalcon.

Genetics and Reproduction

The Falcons mate during late winter and normally have a clutch of about 2 to 4 eggs. The eggs incubate for about a month before hatching. Females reach maturity around 5 years old, while males reach maturity around 3 years old.

Growth Rate & Stages

Hatchlings will remain with their parents until they are about three years old, then they will set off and find their own place in the world. During this stage, hatchings will shed their baby feathers and start growing in their adult ones.

Ecology and Habitats

The species is only found in the island of Karrion, one of the smaller islands that make up the kingdom of Arion. They nest on the cliffs that surround the island.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Like other large birds of prey, the Karrion Falcon will hunt small mammals and smaller birds. They kill their prey as soon as possibly, then store it in or near their nests. They have also been observed picking berries from bushes.

Additional Information

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Karrion Falcons have much more heightened senses when compared to other bird species. They can see, hear, and scent prey up to three miles away. The falcons also have some understanding of language.
