YASHPER Material in ARKTORIA | World Anvil

YASHPER (yash-per)

Overview

Yashper, an reddish stone, is a opaque stone with a smooth surface whenever it is mined or extracted from its source location. It is used as a ornament materials for various Pharas items, or as a construction material for various buildings such as the Scarlet Citadel.

History & Usage

Discovery

It was first discovered by the Zel Mining Guild, a Pharas-led mining group, many centuries ago whenever the leaders were making expeditions in lands near Pharas for new materials. They discovered a entire valley filled with Yashper, stretching as far as their eyes could see. Zel quickly laid claim to the valley, building a few mining settlements with large groups of guards to ensure no one encroached on their discovery.

Everyday use

The most famous use of yashper is the construction of the Scarlet Citadel, an massive seven-sided dome that resides in one of the cities of the Zemmelites. Yashper has also been used as apart of the ornaments that the Pharas priesthood wears, special materials for weapon creating, etc.

Hazards

Unlike other materials that are harvested, Yashper is relative safe to mine from the Yashper valley. Oddly, it is not naturally toxic to anyone in any way despite what some believe. There has been no known severe aliments associated with Yashper, other than the occasional foolish person making poor decisions involving Yashper (such as ingesting it, leading to stomach aches lasting 12 days).
The only real hazards connected to Yashper stone is the valley it is found in, as the Yashper valley does host a few barbarian clans & few groups of vicious bandits. Due to this, the Pharas always keeps special detachments of the Scarletguard at their mining sites to ensure the safety of their mining settlements. The Scarletguard also go on raids to keep these dangerous groups quite tame.

Distribution

Trade & Market

The value of Yashper is immense due to its single location controlled by the Pharas people, and the durability of the stone. Many rich people will pay greats sums of gold for the purchase of yashper-forged items. Organizations will pay greater sums far yashper as materials for special projects.
