ROGUE

Written by Jdebro

Overview
Rogues are crafty adventurers who use a combination of cunning, agility, subterfuge, deception, combat arts, and a host of tricks in their arsenal. Rogues are rather infamous due to their illicit connections, willingness to do anything illegal, and their overall shady behavior. Rogues are often found among mercenary bands, guilds, noble houses, organizations, and even secretive groups with political connections. Rogues are the fierce rivals to Rangers, who often hunt them for their illicit actions.
    Capabilities of Rogues
Rogues possess a large number of abilities and tricks in their arsenal that makes them very resourceful individuals in the field, and dangerous opponents to face in combat. They learn or possess skills related to marital combat, using different devices against foes, tactics to gain unfair advantages, subterfuge, sabotage, and a large array of dirty tricks. Rogues tend to learn how to be assassins, scouts, thieves, bounty hunters, mercenaries, spies, to name a few.
Rogues learn different marital combat disciplines in their line of work, either from personal training, fighting in rogue dens, hanging with mercenaries, trained in assassin houses, being in clans, being previously taught friom their old occupation, or self-taught from fighting in the streets. The combat training Rogues received tend to enable them to fight against even Warriors of considerable skill, and even handle themselves against otherworldly foes such as monsters. They also use underhanded tricks in their fighting style, if they believe it will give them an advantage over their opponents. These types of martial training enables rogues to be very dangerous foes in combat.
Rogues also possess stealth capabilities as they prefer to be able to move in and out without being detected. They use a combination of moving in the shadows to mask their movements, using paratek-based means of hiding, or harness preternatural methods if the rogues has access to such. They make constant use of subterfuge to their advantage by using misdirection to fool their pursuers into thinking they are in one direction when they are really not. This allow the more lethally-inclined rogues to move in on their prey with deadly efficiency.
Rogues also receive training in different types of weaponry for use in combat, both melee-based weaponry and ranged weaponry. The types of weapons used by a Rogues is limited only by their preference. They also learn how to use non-combat equipment for field usage, learning how each tool works and the best situations to use them with high degrees of flexibility.
Rogues are also trained in ways and tactics of unconventional warfare, as Rogues have served in mercenary bands in many cases. Rogues are trained in how to engage targets by analyzing their weaknesses, identifying important enemy assets, information-gathering on enemy-controlled areas, marking enemy leaders, best ways to conduct a raid, setting up ambushes, etc.
Rogue Specializations Among all Rogues are a select number of them who are gifted with supernatural capabilities via their Astrimena, giving them abilities that not even the most elite Rogues has. These Rangers are given training in using their powers in conjunction with their rogue abilities, learning alongside magically-enhanced warriors and mages. Having an affinity for the supernatural, these rogues harness their abilities to perform a large array of feats that are usually known among mages while molding their powers around their roguish ways.
These Rogues are considered to be highly respected among those who admire them or who are their allies, and highly feared by those who hated or targeted by them. Because of their powers, these Rogues are most often asked to deal with otherworldly threats (such as monsters) when normal Rogues are unable to do so.
These specializations take the skills Rogues have to greater levels, equipping them with knowledge and techniques to make them the elite among Rogues. Some disciplines are restricted to Rogues with supernatural abilities, as those specializations are tailored for their usage.
  • Maelstrom Rogues: Maelstrom Rogues, or simply Maelstroms, possess the power to conjure elemental and primal spells through the use of their Astrimena. Maelstroms are the counterparts to Tempest Rangers, and their truly fierce rivals. They use their Astrimena to create spells that bring fire, ice, lightning, and other elemental forces to bear.
  • Havox Rogues: Havox Rogues, or simply Havox, are imbued from their Astrimena the powers of soul-based magics that mages have access to, molded to work in conjunction with their rogue abilities. Havox can use their magic to heal allies, create magical wards, inflict plagues upon targets, create blades with unnatural poison, etc. Havox Rogues are the bitter rivals to Essence Rangers, who likewise treat Havox Rogues with great disdain. Havox Rogues are botable in that they will engage in behavior that is considered quite repulsive even for most rogues.
  • Phantom Rogues: Phantom rogues are masters of concealment, ambush, misdirection, assassination, murder, and unconventional warfare. While most rogues are able to use stealth, Phantoms advance stealth to even higher levels. However, they are also masters in the ways of assassination as they revel in techniques meant to kill. They take great pleasure in the hunt for their target, and performing the kill. Phantoms can strike from the shadows seamlessly, create very convincing decoys, inspire terror into their targets, and turn their environment into a weapon. Phantoms imbued with Astrimena take these abilities to even greater heights.
  • Artificer Rogues: Artificer rogues, or simply Artificers, are experts in creating engineering marvels, and use them for different intentions. While engineers invent and maintaining technology such as paratek, Artificers will use their paratek inventions for traps, contraptions, explosives, dampening fields, etc. These inventions can cause distractions, tear down defenses, disable powerful foes, and aiding allies. Artificers just love making any paratek invention they make into crafty tools of wondrous destruction, to the great chagrin of their foes.
