Filyn

The winged elves of Filyn occupy the western side of the Twin Mountains, keeping their territory small and building tall rather than wide. With towering structures reaching to the clouds and scraping the sky, the natives ability to fly allows them to create such marvels without the need for stairs of any kind. The largest testament to this design and the miracles of the elven home is the city of Filyn'Drast, 'Drast meaning city, capital of the state. Filyn is a constitutional monarchy, with an elected prime minister making decisions, and the king or queen in power at any given time simply signs off on legislation.   Filyn is one of the oldest nations in Sedden, dating back it's roots to as soon as the first elves reached the surface after the flood. On mountains high above the ocean that was everything, the elves watched and waited as they build homes atop the mountains and relied on their patron gods to keep them alive during the years of waiting for the tides to lower. While the capital of Filyn'Drast may be much more modern, older more ancient buildings can be found in the mountain cities, with much more traditional architecture.     Filyn functions with two currencies intertwined into one, with those within the inner cities function in currency of the night, while others of the day. The respective Sun and Moon coins, are broken down as follows. The currency of the night works in crescents, moons, and eclipses, while the currency of the day works in stars and suns. Ten crescents is a moon, ten moons is an eclipse, while two hundred stars simply equates to a sun. The currencies originally formed during wars the ended long before now between followers of either one of the winged protectors. This civil war lasted nearly fifty years, with the currencies breaking off from eachother entirely in that. Though now they work interchangeably, they've yet to unify them, and banks and other businesses consider them separate currencies.

Culture

The people of Filyn are artistic folk, with magic and peace integrated into their day to day lives. With little crime in the larger cities, the people of Filyn are carefree and happy, living in their spires and watching the stars turn around them. Music often fills the streets of Filyn'Drast, as beautiful banners hang from the light posts which guide those above to the layout of the streets below. Though not every city is as fantastical as Filyn'Drast, they all seem to have a certain wonder others don't.

Demography and Population

The population of Filyn is almost entirely natives, with most of their architecture not supporting races without wings. Though smaller towns simply don't reach as high while coastal cities, like Filyn'Drast, often have districts entirely constructed to be accessible to the aero-impaired.

Religion

During the rule of Dragonkind, the elves of Filyn were ruled by metallic lords, who dominated the mountains and kept them in prisons beneath the earth. When the floods came, the elves were left with little to live on, and nowhere to go. Then, Deshai and Liphan presented themselves before them. They asked the elves to raise their children, as they could not comprehend the emotions that the children were feeling. The elves knelt before the divines, and expressed that they would be honored, but had no way to survive on their own, let alone with two divine children. The gods understood, and granted them a number of gifts. They granted them wings, they expanded their mountain caverns and created plant life for them to cultivate.   The divines also opened up their mountains, and showed them the ocean below. They took to the sky with their wings, and built along the cliffs and peaks of what they would dub the Twin Mountains. The race was finally blessed with sun once again, and they made their new found mountain home their own. In time, the divine children Akari and Usugo would mature to a point where they could survive on their own, leaving the elves of Filyn with their divine gift of flight to survive without the same purpose they had before. Faiths surrounding the four became incredibly popular, with the Father, Mother, and Children of the skies being prayed to as saviors. Wing iconography is found in almost all more grandiose Filyn architecture, with towering spires in dedication not that much unlike churches being found as places of worship across the state.

Foreign Relations

Filyn has quite strong ties to Muria, Harna, and the tribes of The Shelf, as during the big Murian economic boom, it was the trade between Filyn and the southern human races, as well as the residents of Iquanial, that really helped solidify Muria as the political power it is today.

Trade & Transport

Filyn is known for it's mastery over the sky, and this continues into it's engineering. Large ships powered by elemental magic and steam power take flight across the sky. While these inventions were coined in Filyn, the Murian's have perfected it in recent years. When it comes to trade, the Twin Mountains are known for it's vast supply of rare gems and other minerals. Many equate this to the lost treasures of dragons of old, while others thank Deshai and Liphan for their gifts that allowed them such a bounty.

"The skies are yours."
