The burning plauge

Upon contracting this disease the unfortunate soul will start by having a slight sweat regardless of the season or ambient temperature.   By the second day the sweating becomes profuse and fever sets in.   On the 3rd day the fever becomes extreme and the sweating becomes so bad that the person will die of dehydration if not constantly drinking liquids. At this point the skin becomes dry and begins to crack.   By the 4th day the sweating stops as the dehydration is simply so severe and the skin turns red and splits even more and oozes a hot foul smelling reddish puss.   The 5th and final day the skin appears red all over and black and burnt around the edges of the splits. The fever at this point is so severe that it is uncomfortable to even sit near the patient. smoke and steam can be seen drifting up from the wounds that are no longer oozing. Death soon mercifully follows and shortly thereafter the body smolders away into ash.   Aside from simply fleeing the infected community there seems to be no way of treating let alone curing this horrific disease. If the infected person leaves the area by no later than the 2nd day then the disease will fade away, however if they return within a month the disease will immediately return as severe as it was upon leaving. leaving doesn't stop the spread of the disease within the community however. Once the first victim falls ill then there is no stopping the spread within the village. The illness only appears to effect small communities and does not spread elsewhere by those fleeing the area. Because of this it is believed to be caused by a curse or some other supernatural ailment.

Transmission & Vectors

Magical, area of effect small community or village.

Causes

Curse

Symptoms

Fever, sweating, cracked oozing sores, death, and combustion.

Treatment

There are no known treatments for this condition aside from fleeing the area.

Prognosis

If the infected person does not leave the area by the 2nd day the outcome is certainly death followed by the body smoldering away to ash.

Sequela

Starts with mild sweating, then progresses to fever. Later stage is marked by cracking and oozing sores. The final stage presents with smoke and steam escaping from wounds ending with death and immolation of the remains.

Affected Groups

Completely random for those in the given area. Only seems to effect small areas or villages with a population of no greater than 200.

Hosts & Carriers

Can only be carried or contracted by intelligent humanoids.

Prevention

Cure disease or the like will protect someone for only 24 hours, after that if they remain in the effected area they will contract the disease as per usual. Other than these measures the only way to protect oneself is to simply leave the area.

Epidemiology

There is no pattern to how the disease is contracted other than simply being in the infected area. Though more often than not it appears to effect the most outlying areas of the population and work inwards from there.

History

There are rarely any records of this disease as it is often 100% fatal to all who remain in the area and the bodies left behind simply burn away leaving no evidence. As it only effects small communities on the very outskirts of civilization and leaves no trace it is mostly unheard of or considered an old wives tale.

Cultural Reception

Being mostly unheard it is usually initially simply thought to be nothing more than a common cold or flu. After the first few fatalities people showing the smallest symptoms such as sniffles will be met with shock and terror and avoided at all cost.
