Human

Humans are the most widespread and diverse ancestry of Ardunor. That being said, however, most modern thinkers believe that a nation or city whose vast majority is made up of humans (or any one specific ancestry) is backwards thinking and weaker for it. It is not uncommon to see cities where humans are the minority, especially in the Braccian League.   The Divine Ütherreich is mostly human, but most outsiders believe the Reich is living in a past century, anyways, and that they hold no real power.   Nobody truly knows where each of the ancestries came from before they reached Ardunor (except the elves, they think they know exactly where they’re from), but it’s believed humans come from the north. Most of the tropical islands north of Scythe Peninsula have a majority human population (although that is slowly changing in recent years, as well). Many have attempted to sail north to see what lands may lie that way, but none have returned.

Human Traits

It’s hard to make generalizations about humans, but your human character has these traits.

Ability Score Increase

Your ability scores each increase by 1.

Age

Humans reach adulthood in their late teens and live less than a century.

Alignment

Humans tend toward no particular alignment. The best and the worst are found among them.

Size

Humans vary widely in height and build, from barely 5 feet to well over 6 feet tall. Regardless of your position in that range, your size is Medium.

Speed

Your base walking speed is 30 feet.

Languages

You can speak, read, and write Common and one extra language of your choice. Humans typically learn the languages of other peoples they deal with, including obscure dialects. They are fond of sprinkling their speech with words borrowed from other tongues: Orc curses, Elvish musical expressions, Dwarvish military phrases, and so on.

Origin

Humans come from every corner of Ardunor, from as far east as the Divine Ütherreich, to the very tip of the Scythe Peninsula, and all the way west to the Shibetsu Empire.   Where you (and/or your ancestors) come from has a big impact on how you were raised, what physical and mental attributes were valued, what skills you learned, and what weapons you became proficient with. Below are some of the places humans can originate from, and what benefits they get from having grown up there.

Bracciano human

Being of Bracciano origin means you came from one of the very many city-states that exist around the Bracciano Sea, such as Castellana, or Armendur. While the cultures of these city-states are incredibly diverse, there are some commonalities between them.

Ütherreichian Human

Humans make up almost the entirety of the Divine Ütherreich. The Ütherreich has gone through some tumultuous times recently, but overall, the reich shows great unity throughout its lands. Lands that are frequently swampy and hard to live in, but fertile. Being from the Ütherreich means you have to fight against the land itself to live, but you get great rewards for doing so.

Shibetian Human

Having this origin means you hail from the Shibetsu Empire on the westernmost peninsula of Ardunor. The people here are largely isolated from most of the rest of the world, and live in unforgiving, cold, mountainous regions.

Zanjanite Origin

The Lumps Origin

Not an actual ancestry, but this physical disorder affects the physical characteristics and social perception of a human enough to warrant its own stats. What commoners refer to as “the Lumps” is a rare physical condition that causes irregular growth of muscles all throughout the body, leaving one’s physical appearance deformed. Some muscles are enormous, while others are normal or small, giving a distinct “lumpy” impression.

The Pale Origin

Not an actual ancestry, but the modifications you’ve made to your body have utterly changed you from whatever ancestry you used to call your own. You have begun to embrace undeath, though not fully giving in yet. One or more of your limbs has been fully replaced with an undead prosthetic, and your body is at least partially mummified, though you are not yet undead.
