The Joining of the Elements

Seventy-three years after the first rift opened on the Elemental Incursions, after countless failed attempts to close them, four mortals from the lands hit hardest by the destruction joined forces to stop the Incursions at their source: the primordial leaders of the Elemental Planes themselves. Each member was a world-renowned expert in their respective field of elemental magic, and with twenty-seven years of diligent research they developed a ritual that would permanently bind the primordial gods deep within the Elemental Planes, preventing them from opening any more rifts. The group spent the rest of the year hunting down the gods and performing the ritual on them in the order they began the Incursions: first Kossuth, the Lord of Fire; then Akadi, the Queen of Air; then Grumbar, the Earthlord; and finally Istishia, the King of Water Elementals. With that, the Elemental Incursions were over.

Legacy

Tragically, Erri died within two years of closing the rifts. Later that year, Lucan disappeared, and some say he returned to Sylanta to lead his clan. Kestha went on to found the Institute of Arcane Learning in the mountains of what is now known as Castria, while Namoros became the first king of Azmarin.   During their lives, they were lauded as saviors of Arda'aman, but after their deaths they were worshiped as gods. Some people argue that they truly did achieve godhood, while others classify them as saints. People pray to all four Masters during the New Year's celebrations, and shrines in each of their homelands see thousands of people pass through on pilgrimage each year. The aarakocra of the north view Erri as their greatest ancestor, The One Who Vanquished the Earthlord, while certain sects of Sylantans maintain that Lucan achieved immortality and wanders the forests to this day. Azmarin sees Namoros on par with Waukeen, calling them the Twin Protectors. Students at the Institute leave small offerings at a statue of Kestha in order to keep their grades up, and the bard colleges write soliloquies begging for her favor each semester around finals week. Everywhere, even eight thousand years after the end of the Incursions, the Masters' influence remains.
