There are many languages spoken throughout Arda, some are widely known, others spoken only by their native speakers or by scholars of the obscure. The most widely spoken languages of Arda are Common, Dwarven, Elven, Giant, Gnome, Goblin, Halfling, Isizwe, Orc, Ren Shay Tow, Suomalainen, and Sylvan. Common is probably the most widely spoken, as most anywhere one goes one can find a speaker of it. There are less common, more esoteric languages such as Aboleth, Aklo, Boggard, Cyclops, Dark Folk, Draconic, D’ziriak, Gnoll, Grippli, Kemetian, Necril, Norsk, Sphinx, Tengu, Treant, Undercommon, and Vegypygmy. Then there are the extraplanar languages spoken by scholars of the beyond and beings from beyond the material plane, including byssal, Aquan (“Tongue of the Sea”), Auran (“Tongue of the Heavens”), Celestial, Ignan (“Tongue of Fire”), Infernal, Protean, and Terran (“Tongue of Earth”.
