Brorskap av Jerv (brôr skəp äv yûrv)

A brotherhood of warriors who have learned to harness their inner rage to fight and defend their people. When not fighting they spend their time drinking and honing their skills against one another.

Structure

The Brorskap av Jerv is divided into hyttes with one hytte located in each community throughout the barbarian lands north of the Frontier Lands. It is a fraternal organization it doesn’t have ranks within it. All members are brothers and equals. That being the case each hytte has a storebror chosen by contests of martial skill such as wrestling or the like. The position is largely ceremonial but the storebror speaks for the hytte in occasions when the hytte needs a leader.

Culture

The brorskap av jerv is an organization for barbarians who have harnessed their inner rage to use in battle. Its members spend their time honing their fighting skills against each other and drinking copious amounts of alcohol. They view the world through a warrior’s lens, where everyone not a brother is either an motstander or a due, that is an enemy or nonwarrior. To the berserk defeating an motstander is a source of honor, while attacking a due is dishonorable, and the berserk are all about honor.

Public Agenda

The berserks are dedicated to fighting. They channel their inner rage to defend their people. They defend their people whether Sjøfolk, Skogfolk, or Gressfolk from all enemies whether other tribes or nonhumans. When not fighting to defend their people, they spend their time practicing their martial skills and partying.

Assets

The berserk do not collect treasure though they do collect trophies from fallen foes, and some of them can be quite valuable. Their communities keep them supplied with a building where the members stay when not fighting, usually on the outskirts of the community. Their communities also keep them supplied with food and alcohol, though the members do spend some time hunting as it can hone their martial skills.

History

As long as the manneskor have dwelt north of the Frontier Lands the brorskap av jerv have been there. According to legend the first manneskor to dwell there were being hard pressed by giants and threatened with being wiped out when a band of warriors who were out hunting were visited by Den Store Jerven a servant of Voimakas who promised them the power to defend their people if they would pledge themselves to him. He taught them how to harness their inner rage. These warriors became the first borskap av jerv.

Since this legendary founding the berserk have spread with the manneskor establishing hyttes with each new community and inducting new members. There are records of them fighting the Iliosgy to protect the manneskor peoples. In modern times they have occasionally fought the settlers of the Frontier Lands when they have encroached on manneskor territory.
