Faedrin

Under a rock, up in a tree, the Trixies hide and jest in glee.

The Faedrin are one of the oldest races of Arcluminus, said to date back to the time of the gods, witnessing the creation of the world. Highly intelligent beings, they have a knack for survival that is best described as being "too smart to get eaten". They are extremely unpredictable creatures and while very curious and often good-hearted they have a persistent craving to cause chaos out of the pure enjoyment of watching the pieces tumble about.   Most Faedrin live among their own species, within natural environmental hideaways such as within deep caverns, in rocky shelters behind large waterfalls, or simply high up among the treetops. They are very comfortable living in the wild, and use their mental tenacity to stay one step ahead of predators. Faedrin often have very large families and it is not uncommon for them to be unfamiliar with most of their immediate family members.   Other species sometimes call Faedrin "Trixies" for their acute minds and the joy they take in tricking people - many Faedrin thrive on playing games on others and distorting perception for their own amusement. The Faedrin do *not* appreciate the term "Trixies" - to them it is a slur.   Faedrin are herbivores by nature - they do not eat meat. They also retain hydration very well and can go for weeks without water.   While the Faedrin are generally a very joyful and friendly species, it is dangerous to make an enemy of one. Faedrin will go to no length to shame and destroy those whom have hurt them (or their friends/family), and they are known to hold grudges for decades.   Faedrin are known for their heavy distaste for religion. Their people lived alongside the gods during the Era of Divinity, and built contempt for them for reasons that they do not care to share with others.   Let it be known that Faedrin are also very blunt creatures, likely to offend others, though this is often not intentional.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Two arms, two legs, long and pointed ears. Most Faedrin are quite lanky. Skin tones range from deep blues to pale greenish hues, with the odd yellows and reds. Some Faedrin are born with wings due to a high rate of atavism, suggested to be a side effect of the magic of Ruin. The Faedrin evolve much more quickly than other species and wings are thought to have been the norm prior to the unpredictable weather changes that came with the summoning of Ruin (flight is very dangerous with erratic wind patterns).

Genetics and Reproduction

Faedrin breed via the copulation of one female and one male.  The female lays a large cluster of 100 - 150 eggs in an intricate webbing which the male fertilizes.  They then hatch within 30 days and the offspring begin a ravenous feeding period lasting 2 weeks - they are born with a voracious appetite and grow quickly over this first 2 week period.  Once this phase ends, the children are often left to fend on their own in the wild in order to strengthen their survival skills.

Growth Rate & Stages

Faedrin grow physically quite slowly (other than the first 2 weeks after their birth), though learn and adapt very quickly. It can take 100 years for a Faedrin to reach full physical maturity.

Ecology and Habitats

Faedrin communities thrive within natural safe-havens (caves, near waterfalls, overgrown dens, etc). They adapt to environmental hurdles quite quickly, and are known to migrate their villages often.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Herbivores, Faedrin have no need for meat. They can go for weeks without a drop of water, though they do require it to survive.
