Humans

Humans are the most populous species in the world, numbering more than all the other races combined. Most of the other races were once humans who were shaped by one of the archons to more closely align with that archon's ideals, and as a result many of the races find they relate better to humans than they do any of the other races.

Special

Humans may start with an additional talent of their choice. They get a bonus based on their bloodline and may learn any talent it makes sense for a human to learn, that is, talents which make sense for a person to have without any supernatural power source.

Origin

It is said that humans predate the other races, and were possibly put in the world by the Creator Himself.

Seven Sons of Saliska

Legends vary, but most of them say Saliska was one of the first humans ever made. His sons are known as the Seven Sons of Saliska, each one leaving a different legacy. While many people groups claim to be direct descendants of one or the other Sons of Saliska, the truth is any given tribe will have several or all of the bloodlines among their members, and it's not uncommon to see one or another bloodline express itself strongly.

Jorm the Strong (+1 to Strength)

Jorm was a builder, the first to construct with stone.

Gitz the Deft (+1 to Agility)

Gitz was a mighty hunter, fast and accurate, and the inventor of archery.

Haoti the Tough (+1 to Constitution)

Fipa the Clever (+1 to Intuition)

Fipa was known as the inventor of the riddle and was the trickiest son of Saliska. The Mountain Sired claim to be descendants of Fipa, blessed with his knack for quick and clever thinking.

Niml the Knowledgeable (+1 to Logic)

Niml is credited with the discovery of writing.

Ijo the Wise (+1 to Soul)

Ijo is said to have been the first person to learn magic from the archons and practice it.

Uzon the Cursed (Bonus Damage)

Those who manifest the curse of Uzon deal 1d6 bonus damage the first time in a round they directly damage someone, but they take 1 damage at the same time. If they damage multiple people with a single attack, they instead deal +1 damage to all targets, and take 1 damage once themselves. You and the GM can work out what exactly constitutes intentionally and directly damaging someone but the bonus damage always applies both ways when it applies.   Uzon committed the first recorded murder of another human. His connection with Karassa granted him and all his descendants shadows blacker than a moonless night and with it the power to increase the lethality of any attack they made. Zareph modified this curse so that any time a descendant of Uzon chose to harm another, they were harmed themselves.   While it is nearly impossible to determine if anyone is a descendant of any of the other sons, descendants of Uzon are noted by their black shadows and usually discriminated against. It's not uncommon for parents to abandon children born with black shadows. It's not clear exactly what percentage of one's ancestors are required to be descendants of Uzon for this curse to manifest, but it's known to show up even when neither parent manifested it, and will not show up necessarily in all children.

Roleplaying Questions

  • Was the expression of your bloodline unique among your village, or odd?
  • How much do you embody the stereotypes of your bloodline?
  • Are you even aware of which Son of Saliska you most strongly descend from.

Appearance

These are humans. If you do them from different cultures, races, and ethnicities that'd be awesome. It's classical era, so if you do european, I'd prefer not medieval but something before that. Similarly, if you do a Japanese-inspired culture, try to do something before the arrival of samurai.   And these are fantasy cultures, so while they may resemble earth cultures, try to make it unique.
