Clan Neverbeggar
The dwarves of Clan Neverbeggar get their name from a vow they made when wars started tearing the continent apart. That whatever happened they would maintain their wealth and status. That they would not be brought low by enemies or disaster. That if any of them were in trouble the others would offer quiet assistance. That they would never be reduced to beggars.
The family split up, scattering themselves across the continent which allowed them to maintain global connections even as the world became more isolated and closed off. Sharing and applying the skills they learned from a number of cultures earned them a reputation for being particularly skilled craftsmen, even for dwarves, with a particular emphasis on the development of weapons. After all, what more lucrative trade to ply when the world is ravaged by wars?
After building both fortunes and fame, they managed to acquire a little island no one else had any interest in owning and transformed it into a formidable stronghold and foundry; Irongarden. From this vantage point, free of interference from the powers on the mainland, they were able to expand their influence both on the continent and across the many islands of the archipelago. Their position, and the coffers within it, secured for the foreseeable future they have breached their previous neutrality and formed an alliance with the up-and-coming kingdom of Auland, supplying the nation with an array of weaponry to fuel its expansions
