Tayen Av'Aryn

Tayen Av'Aryn (or "The Toes of Aryn") is the southmost township on Oy'a, the largest island in the Elf-controlled Northern Islands. More than a town, but not quite a city, it is a hub for sea trade, and fishing.

Demographics

Tayen Av'Aryn is populated mostly by elves (about 65-70%), however, as with most seaport towns, the population has become diluted by other peoples over time.

Defences

The town is situated at the foot of Tusyn'fyell along the edge of a narrow fjord, both of which provide excellent natural protections, should anyone attempt to attack the town. Tayen Av'Aryn is fairly safe from bandits, pirates, and the like, as the town's inns are usually full to bursting with merchant's guards and travelling mercenaries. However, the townspeople have learned to be self-reliant when possible, as guards and mercenaries cannot always be counted upon, and a Watch was put together soon after the founding of The Toes and has been maintained ever since.

Industry & Trade

Tayen Av'Aryn sits inside a deep fjord at the foot of Tusyn'fyell, the Thousandth Mountain, and is the largest trade hub between the Northern Islands and the mainland. As with all seaports, Tayen Av'Aryn exceeds in all things ships. Shipping goods, selling goods, building ships, selling ships, fishing with ships, etc. Some of the finest craftsmen of sea vessels congregate here, building beautiful ships of all shapes, sizes, and purposes. Most of the work here is on or near the docks, but a good portion of the town's income is in forestry, and the mindful harvesting of lumber for boats.

History

Tayen Av'Aryn is said to be the exact spot where Aryn landed when he departed the mainland for the Northern Islands. Named "The Toes of Aryn" in the Elven tongue for the way the docks dip into the water the same way as the glaciers at the foot of the mountain.

Geography

The town sits in a narrow fjord and is backed against a mountain. The lands around the mountain are not ideal for farming, as the lands are rolling and the soil is rocky, however it is good moist soil for back yard gardening.

Natural Resources

Wood from the lush forests around the island; stone from quarries at the base of the mountain; waters full of fish.
