Personal history

Since the Dawn Age, Ioun has guided the advancement of the mortal races as their understanding of the world they live in grows, championing free access of learning to all beings. Ioun was hesitant to take up arms during the Dawn War at first, as she prefers neutrality to open conflict, but quickly determined that her insight would be required if the world was to be saved from the Devourer, and was instrumental in the sealing of Tiamat in the Underworld. After the Dawn War, Ioun established an order devoted to the seeking and preservation of knowledge in all its forms, which would also be endowed with the knowledge to recover and vouchsafe magical artifacts of great power. This organization was named the Order of the Grey Mages, and has served as a bastion of both practical and arcane knowledge in the millennia since. Ioun prefers to remain aloof from most mortals and other deities, and she only contacts the Mages themselves infrequently, and only when her advice is direly needed or if a new Archmage must be selected- although she has been known to send visions to Seers of the Grey Tower.
