Cetrobur

What's all that crying about? Martha wonders worriedly as she rushes out of her house. There on the ground, lies her son, Logan, with tears running down his dusty face. June and Allie are by his side, trying to calm him down. A group of children that look around June's age hang around nearby, watching the whole scene with fear-filled eyes. As June sees her mother coming, she hurries towards her. She can already run pretty fast or a girl of six.
"Mommy, mommy, mommy!" she stops to take a breath, "Lo was running to join us, and there was this rock on the ground, and he didn't see it, so he ran right over it and fell on his face. Look, mommy!"
By the time she had finished talking, Martha had reached Logan and proceeded to inspect the places that he said were hurting. "Don't worry, Logan, it's just a few cuts and bruises. Let's get you fixed up inside."

"Sit down, Logan. Junie! Give him some space," she walks to the medicine cabinet and takes out a jar with a bluish coloured gel-llike substance in it. She spreads some of it sparingly over the worst cuts, and then puts a plaster obver them. "There, now they'll be as good as new tomorrow. Take it easy! No more running carelessly!"
Logan leaves the house, still a little tear-stained, with Allie. June stays behind and looks at the jar in her mother's hands curiously. "Mother, what's that in your hands?"
"It's called Cetrobur, dear."
"But what is it?"
"It's a kind of medicine. Go on and play now."
Cetrobur is a gel-like material with curious medicinal properties, and it comes from Cetrary. The Cetrarians are the only ones in the kingdom who know how to manufacture it.

Pronunciation

SECH-row-burr (the 'burr' is pronounced like the beginning of 'burn' and 'bird')

Limits

It has certain limits, which can be read about here: The limits of Cetrobur

Properties

Material Characteristics

It is a gel-like substance. It is a milky, translucent colour with a bluish tinge. Little pieces of an unknown, dark blue substance are visible in the substance, but the pieces disappear when exposed to air or another substance besides the gel. The texture is a mixture between hair gel and slime.

Physical & Chemical Properties

It takes on the temperature of whatever it touches, and this happens almost immediately. It is absorbed by skin after a few hours, and leaves behind no trace of it once is it fully absorbed.
It reacts very violently with any sort of wood, acting as an extremely corrosive acid that burns through wood. After it has come in contact with wood, most of it burns away, but it form small amounts of a highly acidic liquid that can only be handled with limestone, which neutralises it to make water.

History & Usage

Everyday use

It can be used to clean and speed-up the healing of open wounds, burns, cuts, and scrapes. It is soothing for internal injuries like fractures, sprains and bruises. Any aches can often be relieved by this, too. It is not ingested, but smeared or rubbed onto the skin near or on the injury.
If mixed with hot water in a 1:1 ratio, and the steam produced is inhaled, it can cure coughs, congestion, sore throat, and headaches.

Manufacturing & Products

Not much is known about how it is manufactured, but it is commonly known that the raw material that it is made of is some kind of tree sap found in the trees near and around Cetrary and Rosepass. The sap is tapped from the trees by making a hole in the base of the tree, thrrough which the sap can run out. This proscess is called Sapping, and it is a huge industry in both Rosepass and Cetrary, and there is a trade connection between the two settlements, in which the former supplies the latter with the sap in return for a variety of supplies and resources, including Cetrobur.

Hazards

Older versions of it were toxic when ingested, but the Cetrarians recently developped a new version that would only cause a minor stomach ache and leave a bitter taste in the mouth if ingested.
