Garth Reigson

Sir Garth Reigson

Born into a merchant family, The Reigson's, Garth had a fairly privileged upbringing for a commoner and was placed into various educational establishments at a young age. After training at various colleges, Garth became a local merchant at the age of 15, establishing a foothold in the local silver trade, moving to the capital at 17 to establish himself at the markets there. At the age of 20 Garth heard from his younger sister (who was a Marvore Clerk) that The Marvores were commissioning for educated individuals to become diplomats. For the next year of his life he and his sister trained with the Marvores to become well paid diplomats.   After being sent to the western region of the continent Garth spent most of the year in the capital, meeting and establishing trade with the various merchants. Upon hearing the rumor of a powerful Dwarven merchant passing through the continent trading in general goods and mining equipment, Garth set out to find this man and introduce him to Greyhursts situation.   Ever since a young age Garth has always dreamed of becoming a knight of Greyhurst, not so much for the combat and glory, but rather for the tactical challenge of being a part of or leading an army.   Now after a few years of adventuring, Garth has become much more world wary. He has gained land and has been knighted, fought many battles and has been wounded many times. With the threat of war looming over him, he must decide for certain what sort of person he truly is.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

A tall, muscular. broad bodied man, Garth strikes an imposing figure for a human when he needs to. However during civil interactions Garth maintains a non threatening and welcome posture to put those he is speaking with at ease

Body Features

Garth's fair skin neither rough nor smooth, lending to a adventure ready body.
Show Spoiler
Along his spine are silvery scales that become more frequent towards his pelvis.

Strangely, despite the numerous wounds Garth has sustained during his adventures his body is devoid of most scars and blemishes he should be bearing

Facial Features

Garth has a strong, angular face structure, with inquisitive eyes. His face is kept clean shaven when he is able to maintain it, however it is very common to him to come home with stubble or even a full beard after lengthy adventures. His medium length hair is kept in a loose practical bun in order to prevent it getting in the way of his armor, while still looking presentable in a diplomatic situation

Identifying Characteristics

While he is normally devoid of any noticeable identifying features, it has been noted that he bears a large scar on his cheek when in the pressence of Orcs, the reason this scar disappears is assumed to be magical in nature

Physical quirks

When expecting a fight Garth maintains a tall and intimidating posture.   It has also been noted that he is constantly vigilant, always looking around him in search for danger. This is likely due to past trauma related to his many near death experiences. He also keeps three hidden needle blades strapped to his left thigh. These blades are sometimes coated in poison if a fight is to be expected in the near future

Apparel & Accessories

During formal occasions, Garth always wears expensive and appropriate attire, such as diplomatic robes during negotiation. However during casual day to day activities, or while adventuring, Garth wears practical and comfortable clothing, always bringing a hooded cloak as part of his apparel. In addition to any outfit he wears, Garth always wears a Adamantine chain mail shirt underneath his clothes or armor, to protect himself from unexpected dangers

Specialized Equipment

Regularly wears his custom made masterwork set of plate Armour. Always tries to have a weapon at his side or in his hands whether it be one of his swords (Oath or Concluder) or his Dragonsteel Lance

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Was born in Greyhurst on 21/11/2543 3C. Was raised at home by his mother until education age where he attended a private school in Greyhurst. He gained a general education there until he was 12, when he was enrolled at one of Darreys colleges where he gained the education necessary to become a merchant. At the age of 15 he began working locally for his father as a silver merchant, he continued his studies however, gaining an education in biology (a personal interest of his). At age 17 he moved to Titanfell to establish himself in the markets there and further educate himself there, joining an engineering guild to study Design and Architecture, with the hopes of becoming an architect back in Greyhurst when he was old enough. At age 20 he returned to Darrey at the request of his sister, Sasha. There he was informed that his families liege lord, Randall Marvore, was commissioning diplomats as the provinces relationship with Brackon was rapidly degrading. His sister urged him to join her in applying as they both had a knack for debate and conversation. After a training period Garth officially became a diplomat for Darrey along with his sister. He spent the next few years working in the embassies of the two provinces, until it was deemed that war was inevitable. He was gifted a fine horse named Rayah by Randall for this journey. He was also entrusted the Randall family sword, known as Oath, in order to provide proof of identity.   With that he set off to the province of Westermont, to establish trade with the many mines and lumber mills in the area, in addition to setting up external recruitment possibilities to offset Darreys current lack of military. While there he learned of a traveling dwarf merchant known as Gundren Rockseeker. He decided to set up a meeting with Gundren in the nearby town of Phandalin. However when Gundren did not arrive on the date provided Garth set out on the road to locate him. There he met with an adventuring party that was escorting some of Gundren's goods. From them he learned that Gundren was missing, so Garth decided to accompany the party on the search for the dwarf.   It was on this search where Garth experienced combat and death for the first time, as the group was ambushed by a pack of goblins. Garth attempted to fend off the ambush and assist the group but he ended up as more of a hindrance than a help. When his traveling companions swiftly defeated the goblins, Garth urged them to spare one of them so they could get some information out of it. He naively trusted this goblin at face value and it led them to its hideout where a second ambush was set up. Garth realized his mistake when he was nearly killed by some of the goblins wolves. He was saved by Alerect Stonebane, who then helped him with his wounds. Garth was shaken by this event, realizing how truly unprepared for combat he was.   As the group ventured deeper into the hideout, Garth trailed behind, hoping to stay out of further danger. When another fight broke out Garth was left without any allies nearby and resorted to playing dead in fear when a goblin passed him by from behind. He was understandably mocked for his cowardice by the party who proceeded to save Gundren's bodyguard, Sildar Hallwinter. He informed the group that Gundren had been taken away and presumably killed, which the party believed considering the circumstances.   When the party continued deeper Garth was attacked by a hidden zombie Duergar. It grasped him by the hair and attempt to bite into his neck. In a panic Garth severed his hair, grasped his spear and stabbed it into the Duergar's head, killing it. This was the first thing Garth had killed, and it shook him quite a bit. He got up and, along with the rest of the party, entered into the newly discovered hidden tomb. Inside was a Gorgon that proceeded to charge at the party. Garth tried to find a non violent way to deal with the problem, but when he started to petrify he released he needed to act fast. Noticing a crack in the armor of the Gorgon caused by his allies, he charged and pierced his spear deep into the side of the beast. While he didn't deal the finishing blow, he definitely helped. This was a turning point for Garth, he realized he must get stronger to survive in this world.

When that was deemed fruitless he traveled west to find and negotiate with potential allies and sources of trade. History

Off to a rocky start, their friendship started off as what Eselaer saw as hostile and uncouth. A couple of weeks’ worth of adventuring with The Allies Hand saw very little change to their relationship until a short while after conquering Wave Echo Cave and arriving in Stonewood for first time.    During some downtime, Garth and Eselaer took the time to visit a local tavern for a round of friendly drinks to clear the air between them. It appeared that Esealer had misunderstood him and he continued to state the he didn't dislike her.     Slightly further down the timeline, Garth employed Eselaer to be a mercenary under his command for the Silver Scales. Ever since, she has taken up residence at his castle and can often be found in the dining hall or chatting to Garth at night when he's trying to get to sleep.    Eselaer hopes to someday train as a knight under Garth's tutelage. She has not yet plucked up the courage to ask him to do such a thing due to his ever growing schedule and subsequent stress that follows, as she has witnessed daily as one of his retainers. The reason why she want to become a knight is unknown but it is thought that she feels as if she has to prove her competence and her utmost loyalty towards him.

Nicknames & Petnames

Garth has dubbed Eselaer, 'his little raven' during a conversation. This caught her off guard as she was not expecting him to act so affectionately towards her.

Has accumulated extreme wealth over the recent years through wise business choices and hard work. This wealth can be seen in his land and town of Stonewood, where it is regularly invested to improve the infrastructure and defenses of the town
