Scholars of the Black Sun

When it comes down to magical artifacts that are both famous and mysterious, none comes near to The Black Sun. As such, it is quite understandable that there would be an entire group of people dedicated to unravel it's secrets.
In the city of Zarkos, in the coasts of Copperlands, the House of the Black Sun was built. In this place, the artifact is kept in a special room where it can be studied. Those allowed here are known as Scholars of the Black Sun. The First Scholar is in charge of authorizing or limiting research, to welcome new inductees and to bridge cooperation between different scholars. Sometimes, someone from outside the House is invited to study the artifact. Such people are referenced as "honorary scholars".
Knowledge obtained by members of the House is for the most part kept secret, although Scholars have been observed to have powers of psychic and prophetic nature. This has also led to a number of rumours that the Oracle of Palatlon uses a shard of the Black Sun to work out their divination.
Some scholars of renown end up as professors, easing new scholars into the mountains of collected research. The House also deals with other artifacts of minor import from time to time, but the focus hasn't changed in millenia.

Structure

The First Scholar is chosen among professors to organize and look over the House. Every 5 years, a new First Scholar is chosen.
Professors aid scholars, specially new ones, and help curate research.
Scholars and "honorary scholars" have limited power within the institution which varies on an individual basis.

Public Agenda

The House of the Black Sun strives to empty the well of knowledge embedded in the Black Sun. That knowledge could be used for great good, but also as a deadly weapon, and as such they balance publicity with secrecy.
