Ark the Swift

Mental characteristics

Accomplishments & Achievements

He invented magical options for flight for those that could not fly. Being an Avidor, a race of bird people from Mythiar, he had the ability to fly naturally and easily. However, he did not take his flight for granted and actually liked to study that ability in others like himself and other flying races. Why could they do it and not others? It wasn’t simply the addition of wings; the other Mythiar race, the Neore, did not have any and could fly just the same. They could manipulate the air around them to propel themselves forward and up.   Ark studied multiple willing subjects (including himself) and worked out what was different in all of them and what was the same. In fact, he was the first to fully release a scientific study of the anatomy of several races. Soon, armed with this knowledge, he was able to channel flight-based abilities into magical apparatuses for the use of anyone who wanted them: potions that altered one's biology to sprout Avidor-like wings, a spell that summoned wings of aether, balms that swirled air around in such a way to propel someone like a Neore.   There were other flying magics that came to be later, but without Ark's studies, there would be no stepping stone from which to continue creating.

Failures & Embarrassments

His greatest failure/embarrassment was surrounding the unfortunate circumstances of his death. It wasn't a shame too great to overshadow his memorable deeds, but it was a tragic outcome of his curiosity.   On the day of his death, he wondered what might happen if an Avidor drank one of his potions that would give someone Avidor wings. When he drank it he felt almost nothing, except perhaps a bit of sluggishness. Assuming that nothing happened due to the redundancy of the mixture, he left it alone. But in the next hour when he went to fly, it turned out the potion increased the density of his bones, leaving him flightless, and he toppled off of a cliff and broke his neck.
