Quintessence

The Breath of All Things

Quintessence, commonly known as aether or magic flows freely in Apocrypha. It's in the air we breath, the water we drink, the dirt beneath our feet; it's in every living thing on the planet. Some are born with a gift that allows them to manipulate the aether in all things and bend in to their will. Even those who are born without can get a touch of it through the divine. The schools of magic are broken into Seven Pillars based on the method in which the castor manipulates the quintessence. Spells, curses, and hexes can cross schools. Most of the Pillars will have a unique method of conjuring the same or similar effects. By casting similar spells simultaneously, a castor can drastically improve the resulting magic. This method of casting is known as layering.
