Tack-tara

Tack-tara, a fabled place of magic and terror. Giant multi-legged creatures stalk the land. Large insects plague the mountains, and in the water, huge reptiles will lunge out and eat you whole. There has only been one recorded trip there, and after the stories that were told, no one is returning anytime soon.

Summary

Many have wondered what it's like there, few have thought of going, and fewer yet have wanted to afterwards. The location, however, is unknown, so you could be sailing for months and not going anywhere.

Historical Basis

As far as everyone knows, it is based on the actual island of Tack-tara, if it's actually out there, that is. The original sailors that returned from there are long gone now, so there is no one to return to for questions.

Spread

You will be hard-pressed to find a scrachling that doesn't know about Tack-tara. Just as human children play pretend, so do these alien young, who often play being on Tack-tara.

Variations & Mutation

On the Keeper's Isle, the variation is vastly different than the mainland's. Instead of the insects and other creatures there being aggressive, they are peaceful, and are just scared of the newcomers. Some say the variation exists because the Keepers went there before.

Cultural Reception

After a certain age, the legend turns more and more into one in one's mind. Dreams become less vivid, and less frequent, and sometimes they forget it almost completely, saying it's 'just a child's game.' Of course, there are some elders who remember what they were told about it, and tell the young as often as possible.

In Literature

In some stories, it is said Tack-tara is the home of Daeblus, or essentially, the Devil. In others, it's the place of magic and myth. No one has ever tried to find it, and as far as anyone knows, no one ever will.

In Art

Many paintings have been done of what one expects of Tack-tara. Some good, some not.
Date of First Recording
