Root tree
Also known as Trunk-limb, these large plants grow prolifically in the rainforests, making up most of the flora there. The actual plant is made of about 90% roots, which is the visible parts above the surface. The leaves, if you call them that, grow on the actual bark, providing photosynthesis to the main body, along with the several other plants that grow on the spongy wood.
Animals love these plants, as they provide shelter for everything from a half-inch cross-bug to the mighty Zachraphus. They are commonly seen growing around, over or even through other roots, some have even been seen tied in knots!
Basic Information
Anatomy
Saying this plant is large is an understatement, they are MASSIVE. A rather small trunk is easily five feet across, with the largest being twenty-two feet across! The leaves that grow on its covering are rather small though, at only about 3/4 an inch long. They make up for this by growing everywhere on the roots.
Genetics and Reproduction
Like many earth plants, they send out 'runners', these runners start new plants, and the cycle starts over again.
Growth Rate & Stages
For such a large plant, it would make sense that they dont grow exceptionally fast, but they dont grow as slow as expected. A certain individual, 'Woody' (you humans and your strange names, my goodness!) grew an astounding 12 feet in a year. Going by this knowledge, the forests as a whole must be nearly as old as the Guardians themselves.
Ecology and Habitats
The optimal growth for this species occurs in humid, dense, hot areas, with 80% or more humidity, and preferably over 75 degrees F. They are a massive housing unit, as some animals dig tunnels or dens in its rather spongy, light interior, and it just goes about its business. How it does not sustain any physical damage from that is still baffling.
Dietary Needs and Habits
Their food is mainly sunlight and water, however, the massive amounts of feces and corpses that are inevitably left behind provide much of their energy and nutrients.
Biological Cycle
The passage of time has little to no effects on these massive forest giants.
Additional Information
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
They can feel pain just as most, if not all, plants can. In terms of sensory, that seems to be about it. When humans walk on it, however, there is much more 'give' to the tree than there is with Animoterran creatures, even those much larger, however, if this is a sensory capability or not is still being studied.
Scientific Name
Radiboris Terram
Origin/Ancestry
They came from the rainforests and seem to be staying there.
Conservation Status
Least Concern, as they are everywhere in the forests of the Equator.
