Magnetisis

This extremely magnetic rock is what not only is used in compasses, but also is what supports the Floating Isles. It is pitch black and usually has a strange hum to it.

Properties

Material Characteristics

Large chunks are found, no small stones. Pure black, and to someone who's never seen it, it looks a lot like obsidian.

Physical & Chemical Properties

It is so magnetic, if turned correctly, a 4-pound chunk could pick up a 100-pound Barbro with ease.

Compounds

We were not expecting something like this on our first mission to Animoterra, so we have no geologists with us as of yet.

Geology & Geography

It is mainly found deep withing the Scar, the overhangs or under the Floating Isles themselves.

Origin & Source

The origin theories usually fall towards Caverticus.

Life & Expiration

It does not seem to loose its magnetism with age. It is stable in terms of radioactivity.

History & Usage

History

It was first discovered when someone looked at the Floating Isles and thought, 'what's that black stuff?'

Honestly, i think this material messes with the mind, i mean, who thinks that sort of question and who LICKS the stuff?

Discovery

As far as anyone can find (the history is a bit cloudy) we think it was discovered in 103 A.V.P. and was first used when it was found out it is common in the Scar. The first major products were compasses.

Everyday use

Compasses and scratchlings toys.

Industrial Use

It is only sold, that is the industrial part of this material.

Refinement

Once it comes out of the ground, it is chiseled/carved into the desired shapes and sizes.

Hazards

As it is chiseled or sanded or whatever, it releases a crazy amount of dust. And if you drop it, it shatters into a million pieces, but is intact when it is slammed by a hammer!

Environmental Impact

As it keeps the Floating Isles, well, floating, it helps create a few unique ecosystems.

Reusability & Recycling

Under intense heat, it can be melted and molded to be a larger form, if more of the molten material is added, of course.

Distribution

Trade & Market

It is very exotic in the fact that you either have to go into the Scar or dive below the overhangs to retrieve it.

Storage

It can be set on a shelf for years only collecting dust without harm, although it may clatter around if a metal object is brought anywhere near it.

Law & Regulation

There are no laws against in, unless it is being used as a constraint.

Me

Type
Ore/Mineral
Value
It varies greatly with different sellers and merchants.
Rarity
It is quite common in the places it's found.
Taste
For the few who have been stupid and ridiculous to try it, it tastes similar to iron or, by one account, "A mix of Swiss cheese and gravy." Seriously.
Color
Pitch black in color, but if you look closely for long enough, it does seem to have purple swells in it.
Melting / Freezing Point
It melts at the extremely high temperature of 3050 degrees F (approx.)
Density
It is very dense, being a rock and all. No, being serious, it is a very dense material.
Common State
It is usually found in it's natural state, as the ore/rock
