Mezzaluna
The island of Mezzaluna lies to the south of Andaria right beneath the kingdom of Calimtra. The overall 75.000 square miles large island is sectioned into three parts: the western part seperated by the large river Sumamir is a hilly semi-tropical jungle and mountains region with its greatest landmark being the Green Giant mountain range. It is mostly roamed by various wildlife, especially many clans of hyaenas that are native to all of Mezzaluna and is hardly populated; there are only three reasons humanoids tend to dwelve deeper into West Mezzaluna: they either hunt the wildlife for meat, leather and pelts, try their luck excavating ressources out of the mountain range, which is known to harbour gold and different kinds of gems or try their luck even harder in order to find one of the lost ruins remainders of some form of culture preceding the colonialisation of the Caliphate Jakkur in the Second Age. The middle section of Mezzaluna is a subtropical marshland consisting of swamps, thick forests and the great lake bordering the city of Stoin. Innumerable river forks circulate above and under ground, connecting ocean and rivers to a giant tohubohu of river intersections. The smallest part to the far east is because of its proximity to the much colder ocean of the Cold Embrace a few degrees colder resulting in month long snow-cladden hill ranges; only small villages of fisher live that far to the east, embracing the reclusive solitude.
With the fall of the Caliphate in the revolution of 253 TD the masses of slaves and exploited freed themself from the shackles of their surpressors and in an unsettling brutal, but short outburst of violence managed to take over the island and stationed ships. A temporary government was created, but didn't manage to unify the various groups and instead the power vacuum was filled by already influential families of merchants and pirates.
History
When the island of Mezzaluna was actually first inhabited is unknown, as only a few well-hidden ruins can tell those stories. The colonialisation through the Caliphate Jakkur on the other hand is well recorded. First settlers had already settled down approximately in the 11th century HM creating little villages and outpost along the river Sumamir up to the city of Draconis Port, that already was at the period a small, but flourishing port. With the beginning of the 14th century HM the Caliphate Jakkur sent large groups of settlers in order to colonise the island and snatching ressources and materials from the island as well as gaining the advantageous trade and defense position the island offers. Over the following centuries the Caliphate expanded the frontier cities to the north and south into defendable outposts and in order to more efficiently seize the natural ressources began shipping large numbers of captives and slaves unto the island. These slaves were mostly from West Andaria most of them from the region of nowaday Weatherlast captured in skirmishes and conflicts or simply abducted by freebooters, looting and pillaging under the flag of the Caliphate Jakkur.
