Adrian

Adrian

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Tall and solidly built, best described as more boxy/rectangular in general shape . Intimidating- stands tall and straight, sharp gaze. Strong arms and legs, solid waist. Rough hands. Developed a moderate limp after sustaining serious injury to her left leg.

Body Features

Paler complexion, few very faint freckles. Chestnut brown hair kept short at first, later she lets it grow out rather long- a little ways past her shoulders; rather fine and straight.

Identifying Characteristics

Severe burn scars- her left leg got it the worst, the scars starting about mid-calf and running up the rest of the leg and thigh. Scattered burns across her back and left arm as well, though not quite as severe.

Physical quirks

Learned ambidextrous, though there's no telling what the original dominant hand was.

Apparel & Accessories

If it's black, she'll wear it. Prefers leather in terms of material, definitely keeps a jacket at the very least. Okay with about any sort of shoes as long as they're sturdy. Prefers pants. Likely carries a walking stick?

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Born in the walled city-state (.... figure out a name later), the last vestige of an empire that had stretched nearly the whole continent, Adrian's youth was harsh and sparse, as most lives were there. Orphans like her were a simple truth of thing- people left and never returned, grew sick and died, or simply wanted nothing to do with children. Besides- it was better to give them to the city for rearing. The homes had sound walls, enough food, education. It was for their own good.   It helped too, that it built quite loyal citizens.   Adrian doesn't know how she ended up in one of the homes, just that she'd been in them as far back as her memory goes. She was exemplary- healthy and robust, a fighter, a quick learner but not full of questions. In a few short years, she was... more isolated, more from the other children anyway. Adopted into the Vila, the emperor's own stronghold, to be taught and trained- her body, her mind, her life itself, belonged to him and to the safety of the state. To question was unthinkable- quite legitimately, even the few stirrings of question and confusion were shot down before she could find the words to ask. It was wiser- easier, safer- to simply do as she was told. Learn this, take apart that, put it back together. Grapple, shoot, swift stabs, to bring a man twice her size down clean and quiet, taught by the emperor's own assassin at the time.   Assassins weren't a rarity among the government's ranks of course, but Adrian became their new face- the silent shadow in the corner, the ever-present eyes and ears keeping watch for any trouble, any dissent or threat to the empire, ready to silence it in the blink of an eye. She dealt with a number of so-called threats over the years, carrying her predecessor's legacy rather seamlessly...   A shame that the city was already dying and infiltrated, the final fall coming when she was barely even in her mid-twenties.

Gender Identity

She/her pronouns. Kind of goes along with being perceived as female, but would describe herself as agender if/when she had the knowledge.

Sexuality

It... exists? Probably?

Education

Officially, quite decent- all primary and secondary schooling, good marks all through. However, the actual historical/geographical information learned was erroneous at best, outright fabrications more often than not. (Technical/mathematical knowledge is at least fairly solid.)

Employment

Preferred assassin & bodyguard of the emperor. Later, assistant to the Croc Doc; further on considers a career in music.

Mental Trauma

In a state of near-constant dissociation until she's about 24- however, never manifested into a full split/DID situation. Rather, her personality barely formed at all- she was to be a tool of the state, nothing more. She has a poor understanding of emotions, or even of her own needs, let alone the idea of wanting anything more than she's told/been given. Extremely uneasy interacting with others, holds a lot of fight instinct- though, perhaps a small mercy of her adherence to orders is that she doesn't instigate unless someone gives reason to.

Intellectual Characteristics

Excellent spatial thinking, good at understanding and guessing layouts. Good with mechanical things, or anything that requires being taken apart and being put back together, steady-handed. Good with books- she can read quite well, though her overall comprehension starts out limited, and she is... fairly abysmal at questioning or fact-checking for a little while. Has to essentially learn to write from square one. Shows a surprising skill with music- good ear for identifying notes, quick at picking up guitar and piano.

Morality & Philosophy

Virtually non-existent for a majority of her life, mostly came down to 'my higher-ups are right'. Slowly develops a more pacifistic outlook- seeks to do what she can to maybe try and make lives better, safer.

Social

Speech

Speaking voice almost always retains a rather clipped tone. Starts out quite hollow, though does develop a richer tone as time goes on, surprisingly warm and slightly higher than might be expected. Takes some time before she'll really get... talky with anyone. Slower pace.

History

Michelle never had much reason to pay the Emperor's new assassin much mind, when she emerged on the scene. She fit the usual look- tall, dark, scary and silent, what else was to be expected? Michelle kept focused on her work, first for the city and later the rebellion, focused on the close realities far from the gilded elite... until her slip-ups led to their paths crossing.   Michelle had nothing but contempt for Adrian after that- she'd been jumped and nearly killed, and for what? For trying to just finish the job emperors long past had started? She never sought the assassin out, though she did have to be held back at least once when spotting Adrian among the rebellion's little community once things had quieted down. More than once she was heard saying that she'd gladly take Adrian on a rematch any day, see how well she did without dirty sneak attacks and her weapons now.   It was a chance, joking comment some time later that planted the idea in Michelle's mind. That if Anna were grown... well, Adrian's looks weren't too far off. And there had been rumors- well, rumors once, confirmed fact with documents stolen- that the government would single out likely children, raising them up to be perfectly loyal to the state and ready to fill in positions as needed to keep the machine running...
