Oogdruk

Main personal motive:

  • Wealth and Trade

Special Contributions:

  • Raw Materials
  • Metal Smithing
The Oogdruks are a clan of giant orcs in the Engdr region. Orcs are hostile and aggresive by nature, but the Oogdruk clan is the most peaceful of the orc communities. They use their size and strength to intimidate others into submission before resorting to violence, though they will not hesitate to pumel resistance. While not particularly knowledgeable they are whitty and clever, often coming up with ingenious if unorthodox solutions to problems.   Oogdruks are gruff and brutally honest in all cases except bartering and trade. Oogdruks are also fiercely independent, often refusing help for any reason. Trust within the Oogdruk community is restrained to a mutual understanding that everyone is trying to take advantage of everyone else. Disputes are often settled on the spot with a fight where the dirtiest player gets his way.   The volcanic environment of the Engdr region is rich in ore and mineral deposits. The Oogdruks have learned to mine and smelt the abundant metals into tools and armor which they sell along with the many gems they collect. The Oogdruks supply the majority of the world's raw materials, giving them great economic leverage over the other realms.

Anatomy

The Oogdruks' giant size and course skin have earned them the nickname ‘Stone Giants’. Their skin is thick and hard as rock, giving them the appearance of animated statues. Their skin allows them to venture directly to the edge of the lava rivers that flow from the active volcano for extended periods of time.   The hard labor of hammering and the heat of the volcano and forge require a diet of tough plants and minerals. While the adults work the forges, children go out and gather baskets of ironwood branches and riverstones while the adults bring home the maincourse of freshly mined granite and other ores from the mines and forges.   The hard labor of hammering and the heat of the volcano and forge require a diet of tough plants and minerals. A Gorgun's diet consits of the left over stones from their forges and other plants and minerals found around the base of the volcano to maintain their tough, fireproof skin and giant strength. While the adults work the forges, Gorgun children go out and gather baskets of ironwood branches and riverstones while the adults bring home the maincourse of freshly mined granite and other ores from the mines and forges.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

The Oogdruks live in Gorgultha located on the slopes of Eirabur in the Engdr Region. They prefer to mine the volcano’s rich ore deposits and have become expert blacksmiths. By selling their wares of armor and weapons they have become extremely wealthy.

Common Customs, Traditions, and Rituals

On topics other than metallurgy and bartering, Oogdruks are not the brightest. They place great value on material things and are usually greedy and miserly, hording their riches in their underground vaults. They denounce religion and bow only to those stronger than themselves. It is dangerous to get on an Oogdruk's bad side for their fiery temper rivals that of lava and they are known to rip a man limb from limb in rage.   Both men and women work the forges. The hard labor of hammering and the heat of the volcano and forge require a diet of tough plants and minerals. While the adults work the forges, the children gather herbs and stones at the foot of the volcano.   Obsidian is considered a delicacy in the Oogdruk community. Only adults are strong enough to eat it and it is used as a mark of adulthood. An adolescent Oogdruk is offered a meal of obsidian to prove their maturity and if they are are able to finish the meal they are recognized as a fully formed adult.

Rule of Fist

The Oogdruks keep order in their community by the threat of terrible punishments. Since no law enforcement entity exists, the victim Oogdruk is expected to enact the appropriate punishment themselves. Those punishments are outlined in a brief set of laws based heavily on the priciple "an eye for an eye" which governs the appropriate actions for only three major crimes:
Theft
If someone catches a thief trying to steal from them, they are allowed to cut off one of their fingers. Oogdruks rely heavily on their hands to mine and work the forges so to lose a finger directly impacts their ability to provide for themself, making this an effective deterant.
Indirect Murder
If a Oogdruk is found to have lied and caused the death of another they are branded with the Serpent's Head. This mark identifies the person for their crime and impacts their future economic opportunities since no one wants to deal kindly with a liar.
Direct Murder
If for some reason a Oogdruk murders or attempts to murder another Oogdruk outside of a Brawl and is discovered, the survivor or his family are allowed to seek vengence and kill the murderer. If they can not find the murderer, then they are allowed to take out their vengence on a member of the murder's family of their choosing.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

The Oogdruks are a shady clan who prefer to benefit from the misfortunes of others rather than get directky involved in quarrels with the other realms. That said, an Oogdruk will readily resort to violence if they believe it will work in their benefit. Their immense size and strength makes them natural fighters and compensates for their lack of military training.
