The Directorate, originally founded as a university by the enigmatic Hero of the Emergence, Paerune, has evolved into a prestigious and influential organization in Allura. Led by the secretive Supreme Director, Lewin Thain, the Directorate's core mission revolves around the acquisition and dissemination of knowledge, pushing the boundaries of science and magic to safeguard Allura from existential threats.
With a vast network of well-connected graduates and representatives in major cities, the Directorate's influence extends far beyond its base in Caldum. It commissions expeditions to various corners of Allura and other planes in search of knowledge and artifacts, accompanied by an elite force of scholars, craftsmen, and Acolytes wielding unique weaponry.
However, the Directorate's enigmatic nature and occasional overzealous actions have stirred both fear and admiration among the people. While some view it as a source of instability, rulers seek to leverage its powers, leading to a complex reputation.
As tensions rise within the organization due to differing beliefs about knowledge dissemination, the Directorate's future hangs in the balance. Structure
At the helm of the Directorate stands the Supreme Director, Lewin Thain. Chosen by the previous Supreme Director to lead the organization, Lewin holds supreme authority and oversees the activities of five Disciples, each responsible for distinct aspects of the Directorate's research and operations:
The Disciple of Faith is responsible for the study of the divine. His principal duty is to spread belief in Paerune, a semi-mythical historical figure believed by most to have been the incarnation of a god of knowledge.
The Disciple of Magic is in charge of studying the arcane. Their chief concern is artifacts of great power, especially those steeped in legend.
The Disciple of Light focuses on research concerning the enrichment of life of the common man through scientific and sometime slightly magical means. Many great advancements have come to Allura from the ingenuity of a light disciple. They envision a golden age of peace and prosperity through new technology.
The Disciple of Will is something of a diplomat for the directorate. They oversee the relationships with embassies of the Directorate in other nations as well as their asset’s in Gildas.
The Disciple of Might oversees a pseudo-military branch known as the Acolytes. A Disciple of might is in charge of not only security and protection of the Directorate’s base in Caldum but also on their frequent expeditions for powerful artifacts and relics of a bygone era.
Culture
The Directorate's culture is veiled in mystery and secrecy, deliberately withholding its true purpose as a matter of policy. At its core, the organization reveres the pursuit of knowledge and innovation in both science and magic. However, internal divisions exist as sub-factions within the Directorate hold different views on the dissemination of knowledge. Some factions seek a more active role in the world, while others advocate for knowledge to be confined to a select few. The culture is heavily influenced by strong belief in Paerune.

The Directorate's representatives are present in major cities, responsible for diplomacy and negotiating access to coveted stores of knowledge. The organization commissions expeditions to explore Allura and even other planes, accumulating a vast wealth of knowledge and precious artifacts. To ensure protection during these expeditions, the Directorate enlists the aid of the Acolytes, a dedicated pseudo-military branch.
History
The Directorate traces its origins back to the visionary intellect of Paerune, a legendary figure known as a Hero of the Emergence. In the early days of Allura's history, Paerune founded a humble university in the burgeoning settlement of Caldum. His reputation as a masterful wizard drew both nobles and commoners seeking to learn under his esteemed tutelage.
As time passed, the university flourished and evolved into a prominent institution, garnering immense influence in the region. Under Paerune's guidance, the pursuit of knowledge and innovation flourished within the walls of the university. Soon, the Directorate had become the epitome of knowledge acquisition and magical research.
