The Dusty Mage (English)

The Dusty Mage is a tavern run by an ellat named Kazia Mori a.k.a. 'the dusty mage', in the city of Mistshire. The spiritist mage used to be an adventurer in their younger days now she runs a tavern presenting as a young male with a side business in potion-making. The tavern has little bat-like creatures called Kazan that deliver the potions to the customers. There are small secret doors located on each level of the tavern that allows the Kazan to move freely with their deliveries. The so-called leader of these small creatures goes by Frankincense, the smaller ones let Frankie believe he is the leader but he is not. The creatures are trained to bring potions and drinks to the patrons and while they mostly bring the right item there has been the occasional mishap when they bring the wrong thing to a customer, because of this, Kazia Mori has to keep a close eye on them to make sure they don't turn someone into a bear or some other strange creature. Potion making is a side business that the majority of the customers do not know about, one has to say specific code words when they want to order specific potions or ingredients. Kazia Mori is a skilled potionist having advanced to the 'spiritist' level but when they retired from adventuring they wanted a place where they could soak up the ambiance of adventurers' tales and camaraderie. A relaxed place where folks could pop in for a pint or a pie. They didn't want to set up a potion shop that stood empty most of the day. However, the desire to help and the need for a decent 'potionist' bloomed into the potion-making side business.

Purpose / Function

The purpose of the Dusty Mage is to serve as a local watering hole where adventurers and day laborers can kick back and relax over a pint and share stories of the day. It is also a handy location to pick up potions on the sly if you're in the 'know'.

Alterations

The attic has been retrofitted to be a potions laboratory. Also, a secret tunnel system that allows the Kazan to deliver potions via a secret entrance behind the bar and a maze that runs through a good portion of the city. They can also enter the potion room and their provided sleeping quarters via these tunnel systems. There is also a secret door that is large enough for Kazia Mori to escape (or leave discretely) to the building next door. The entrance to the tavern was enlarged out of thoughtfulness for bigger clientele, as well as larger stools at the bar.

Architecture

A mixture of Elvin wood and stone as well as locally sourced stone. Squished between two other buildings in a bustling city, the Dusty Mage stands out with its faded forest green wood shutters against the pale blue stone walls. The roof also stands out with its matching forest green slates. A placard sits above the door that is a pale yellow painted wood with "Dusty Mage" written in artistic scrolling lavender lettering. The doors are forest green as well.

Defenses

Spells are employed to protect the Dusty Mage from magick attacks. Lavender spelled candles are ready to be lit if the general mood of the tavern starts to turn too rowdy. The candles release a calming spell.

History

The Dusty mage has been around for many years and is considered a staple of the community.

Tourism

The Dusty Mage is well known among adventurers as a fine place to 'hang-out'. The occasional traveler that stops in is usually delighted with the find and word has spread slowly of the delightful ambiance one can experience here. Kazia Mori lives above the tavern and is strict about closing time.
The Dusty Mage Tavern in Mistshire
The tavern is run by Kazia Mori. It is three stories tall if you count the attic. The Dusty Mage is always entertaining between the stories, random acts of juggling, games, and antics of the kazan who try to remain largely unseen.
Kazia Mori is a spiritist mage, tavern owning ellat. Kazia's ellat presentation is a half-elf, half-leopard. Kazia dons an illusion spell that renders her appearance to one of a male of her species. She had traveled the world enough to know that running a tavern as a young male as opposed to an older female would be easier. Being a spiritist mage she has respect for all life and hesitates to ever take one. There is also an understanding of the cycle of life. Kazia had been known to smack a patron for purposely stepping on a lizard dashing across the floor while carrying a plate with chicken to a waiting guest. All regular guests know not to mess with Snorb, Kazia's dog.

  • The Dusty Mage Residence Room
This area is where Kazia Mori and the kazans relax and sleep. The kazans have their own room that they share. They've always been together and seem to like it that way. Kazia's elfin heritage and mage background are evident with the furnishing and abundance of plant life throughout all three levels of 'The Dusty Mage'. The kazans have their own entrance that they normally use but they have been known to zip up and down the main stairs on occasion, especially when the tavern is locked up for the evening and they begin playing one of their invented games.    Kazia likes to relax and read, write in her journal, and contemplate potions. The ability to adjust and change potions that have existed for centuries into new forms has earned them a certain reputation. Some love and appreciate it, others (mostly nature energy mages) are NOT happy with the 'fiddling' of tried and true methods. This is part of the reason why their identity is hidden and the potion business is handled in secret.

Games are always available at the Dusty Mage. Card and dice games abound. There is an ongoing betting pool regarding whether or not Snorb is alive. The dog is always seen curled up in the same corner of the tavern. No one remembers ever seeing him move. Anyone who gets too close to Snorb falls under the glare of Kazia or one of the tavern workers shoo's them away.
