The Grand Arena

The Grand Arena is a place where people go to enjoy watching fights to the death. This is the only fighting arena where there are fights using magic. Gladiators may be voluntary or slaves, though voluntary fights typically have more skill and therefore cost more to attend.

History

The Grand Arena was founded for the personal enjoyment of Alia’s monarch centuries ago. Originally, only aristocrats and nobles could attend. Queen Validia, as part of her economic plan, opened the fights up to the public with a low price for tickets. When the elite became upset at sitting beside the commoners, she added special voluntary fights specially for their enjoyment.
Magic has always been a part of the fighting in the Grand Arena. The best sorcerers from all over Alia and beyond would come to test their skills. Some of the fights are magic-only, while others allow both magic and weapons. The latter is usually used for more experienced fighters and is more expensive to attend.

All combat in the arena can only be attended when you pay for tickets.
