Ondir Hospital

In the centre of the town of Ondir sits the Ondir Hospital. It rises out of the surrounding villages like a mountain, a great five-story structure carved out of stone and wood. Some of the nation's greatest scholars and healers live and work there within the dimly lit corridors and wards. The stones are scrubbed clean of moss and lichen once a year on the anniversary of its completion. The collected material from this ceremony are then sprinkled through the halls as a way of bringing good health.

Purpose / Function

To heal the sick and injured, and to discover the swiftest and most effective methods of doing so. It was originally built to replace the original hospital, which was entirely wooden and burnt down in a fire. The scholars of the hospital occasionally will help spread the knowledge they have acquired through their research to other towns and nations, although this happens twice a year at most.

Alterations

Over time some of the windows have been widened to allow more light to filter through. This stems from the belief that light exposure can help cure the sick.

Architecture

The Ondir hospital is easily one of the largest in the town. It has a massive straw roof that slopes down past the fifth and fourth floors. The healers and scholars typically live on the upper floors for this reason, since it is commonly believed that light is beneficial to the healing process. There is a small patch of land directly to the eastern side of the building that houses some very rare medicinal herbs. Many come from far off nations and cannot be found in the local region. Each corner is supported by a massive timber beam, and the stones that make up the majority of the structure are a mottled brown-grey.
