Aquila Mons

Description:

Pre-Destruction: A medium-sized town built on rolling hills covered with sagebrush, sparse in trees, and small patches of wild grass, with snow patches plentiful due to the colder temperatures. The majestic Montiwell mountains tower over it, keeping it in shadows until near noon-day. The houses are built big and with large plots of land between, with many farms dotting the landscape. Horses are often seen in fields that are being ridden on dirt roads. The stars are extremely visible at night, and the place has an aura of peace.   Post-Destruction: Almost every building has been torched by fire. Some burnt to their foundations, others with a fourth of their structure still yet to crumble to the ground with black scorches covering the surfaces. The entirety of the ground is burned black, and not a sign of life to be seen for miles. The mountains, once inspiring, loom as terrible giants, threatening to bury the town. The shadows darken the already dark ruins. The roads are completely forgotten in the destruction, and the sky is blackened by the aura of malice that hangs like a thick fog over the graves of many, the cold sending chills of fear down those in the area. Corpses can often be seen amidst the rubble, either as skeletons or covered in roasted flesh.

History:

Set up as one of the earliest towns following the Third World War/Earth-Reforming-Calamity. Though, due to it being in the foothills of the Montiwell Mountains, having a colder environment, and being 'out-of-the-way' of everything, it failed to grow much bigger than small neighborhoods and a dozen or so farms. It held a peaceful experience, being out of the way of the Desolating Trials, and avoiding any serious riots or battles. It lasted until about 4608, when the Heralds of the Damned laid siege to it, burning it to the ground and tainting it with the horror of thousands of torturous deaths. less than 5% of the total population survived the initial attack, with many more succumbing to injuries, sickness, or the environment as they tried to migrate to a new home. It remained practically and entirely destroyed until between DCL and Blackstorm when Colton Diaíresi Toa attempted to restore it to its former glory.

Inhabitants:

A majority of its inhabitants were farmers, tilling the fertile land for crops, raising livestock, or breeding horses for racing, war, or other uses. Other inhabitants were poor families, due to the surplus of land resulting in cost for purchase being quite low. And the very few rest of the inhabitants were either those of wealth making attempts to escape old lives and live the rest of their days in peace, or those wishing to secretly practice illegal activities away from authorities.

Other Info:

The most wealthy families live on the tops of the hills, with the poor families living near the bottom.   Aquila Mons is Latin for Eagle Mountain, which is a small city in Utah, which the fictional town is based off of.   Aquila Mons was the largest supplier of horses to the rest of the country, which the destruction of the town resulted in most of the country converting to vehicles.
