Burgess
A joint gift from Anima's Racine and Pèlerine for their beloved children, Burgess represents a unique cultural melting pot quite unlike anywhere else in all the realms - Mortelle, Nix, Pitic, and Anima live and work shoulder-to-shoulder regardless of station, resulting in a city entirely unified in its goals and aspirations. The influence of different cultural magicks on Burgess can not be understated, as it has literally shaped the land itself into a rare jewel in Albion's crown.
Defences
In times of conflict, Burgess is defended by the Blades of Burgess, a group of elite warriors and monks whose genealogy spans the vastly varied lineages of the city.
With regard to the fortifications of the city itself, Burgess is surrounded by both an inner and an outer curtain wall of dragon-vulcanized opalus (Common trans. "Opal" - not to be confused with its raw form, edulis opalus [Common trans. "Edible Opal"]). Each wall is topped with 6 watchtowers, positioned adjacent to each other in concentric rings to ensure that Burgess is monitored from every angle at all times, and each watchtower is manned around the clock by anywhere from 5-15 men. The walls of the battlements between towers have been outfitted with arrow slits, Each of the cardinal entrances of Burgess is protected by a gatehouse and portcullis, the northern and southernmost gates featuring complex barbican systems with a fortified subterranean keep should the city need to be evacuated or abandoned for any reason. The eastern and western gates also feature drawbridge systems capable of completely closing the inner city off from the secondary wall.
