The Betrayal of Plie
The beginning of Plie and Xeperno's bitter feud.
Courant was once a psionic Empire that spanned the continent, with their elite psionics living in grandeur in the highly polarized north. But once their lower caste found the psychic crystals in the southern mountains, rebellion was on the wind.
This is the Psychic Rebellion that split the Empire into the four countries of today.
The Conflict
Prelude
The rebelling Middle and Southern Courant, today Plie and Xeperno, had establish their own governments. Plie a Capitalist based Monarchy, Xeperno a freedom-seeking Democracy. But the leaders of Plie, easily led by the nose with the promise of wealth, had betrayed their Southern brother with information on the coming amphibious assault on their Western border.
Deployment
Courant deployed their Kineticist, Shaper, and small Egoist grunt force (many had fled to Plie and Xeperno at the start of the rebellion) with the speedy assistance of their Psychoportation division to Xeperno's West coast by the foothills of the mountains.
Plie, despite claiming allegiance with Xeperno, never came to aid.
Battlefield
The port city of Liga, Xeperno defended the invading ships and storming beaches of Courant's psychic army.
Conditions
Overcast, early morning. The wind was at Courant's back. Civilians evacuated at the sounding of an alarm from their lighthouse.
The Engagement
Xeperno was well acquainted with Courant's assault strategies, and had done their best to minimize the effects of Courant's clairvoyants and telepaths. So much of their resources in their early rebellion had gone to defending their minds that Courant had changed tactics to no longer send telepaths into battle.
The Egoist foot soldiers stormed the beach, using their psychometabolic powers to drive them on faster and stronger than a man with will alone could muster. Xeperno bravely burned their own docks to keep Courant ships from simply docking. This slowed them down enough to fight the Egoists with equal footing and no back up for a while.
Cannon fire was exchanged between Xeperno and Courant ships until the few Xeperno ships were sunk. The Xeperno Navy retreated to land to continue the fight as the Courant Kineticists took the field, blasting the Xeperno forces like mobile cannons. The Shapers came in as cavalry atop their ectoplasmic-generated mounts to finish the battle.
Outcome
The Battle of Ligo, later called Plie's 1st Betrayal, took two days just at the border of Plie and the mountains. Had Plie intended to honor their agreements, their stronger port would have stood as a first defense against such a naval assault and a warning to gather forces for Xeperno. Instead, Ligo was out manned and out gunned, the port was taken as well as a mine.
Aftermath
The Battle of Ligo marked the start of a bloody campaign to reclaim Xeperno. Plie was rewarded for their loyalty to Courant, and trade with only mild puppeteering of their government took place. Xeperno won back their independence 200 years later, but only after the rest of the world had moved beyond slavery and their closest allies had denounced their caste system.
Historical Significance
Legacy
Plie became known as Courant's Lap Dog. Other occurrences took place to cement their loyalty, but this was the start. Xeperno became remembered as crass rebels. Even once dominated again by Courant, the southern half of the continent became known for their belligerence under a ruling class that could read their minds and foresee their future criminal activities.
