Humans

Humans are the most peculier of the sentient species residing on Alatoria, foremost for the fact it appears they are not native to the world at all. The exact nature of their arrival is unknown, though the oldest stories, primarily in the Kingdom of Tenebron, speak of them falling from the sky into the sea and rising from the very ocean itself. This legend may be biased due to Tenebron's religious significance around water, though, and is not widely accepted as a truth or an origin.
Regardless of how Humanity 'arrived', be it magical or practical, the introduction of Humans to Alatoria millennia ago initiated a significant change that would forever alter the course of the world and its biology. The biggest influence Humanity has had on Alatoria was mixing with the various sapient races that were native to Alatoria, leading to the modern races we have today.
Excluding Humans themselves, modern Elves, Darkbloods, Dwarves, Orcs and the Icesingers are all a result of Humans breeding with various ancient sentient species to produce entirely new beings. Some powerful magicks, like the Kindred Bond, were created as a direct result of Humanity's intermingling 'muddying' ancient biology.
In modern times, Humanity is the most populous species across Alatoria. Three of the major nations-- The Fothonian Empire, the Kingdom of Tenebron and the Cyrhan Republic --all feature Humans predominantly in either their gentry or their nobility.
