Akrean High Council

The Akrean high council is a governing body to advise the emperor and rule in his stead should he become incapacitated and/or without an heir. The emperor makes the appointments himself, and they can be changed at any time. However, tradition dictates that most appointments stay within specific houses. Politics can cause the families to fall in and out of favor and sometimes seats appear and disappear on the council according to the emperor’s whims. If the individuals are power hungry, it is not in the best interest of either party for, emperor or high council, to be able bodied. If the government is in harmony, then the council and the emperor can work together to accomplish remarkable things. When the emperor is in his majority and has a direct successor no one can overrule him. If the emperor is under sixteen or infirm without a successor, then the high council rules. A weak emperor can be unduly influenced by his high council. The Counselors can use any means to try and persuade the emperor to align with their wants and needs, but are aware if they overplay their hand, their seat can be eliminated with a snap of his fingers. Dark Ages and Golden Ages are ushered in depending on the willingness of the high council and the emperor to work together to make Akrea’s greatness truly shine through from the streets of the Diamond Metropolis to the jungles and oceans of the rest of the planet. The High Council only has as much power as the emperor allows it to have. An ancient proverb says that “A weak Emperor is eaten by the beast he feeds.” All Akrean High Council members are required to wear their hair long and have it traditionally braided. They wear robes coordinated with their house sigils and colors when on official business. No shoes are worn in the Diamond Hall where the High Council members meet to remind them that they are servants of the people when engaged in their duties.
