Akratia's Edge

The Last Resort of Exile and Spark

Originally known as Kai Mendebal in Ancient Akran. Now, also known as The Edge, West's Edge, Edge of Akratia, Sanctuary, and Haven, the outpost of Akratia's Edge is the Sovereign Isles' answer to extreme criminality and those cursed by the Spark and the home base of the Embershroud Company. Where once these criminals and Sparks were executed by the government, now they are shipped to Akratia to make their way as they will, far away from civilization. In return, the Isles demand only that those exiled souls delve into the ancient past of Akran and send its treasures back on the return ships.

Current State of the Edge

Built in the ruins of an ancient Akran port, the Sparkless masses huddle behind the broken stone walls that form the only non-Spark defense against the predations and violence of the continent. Rough slums makes up most of the inhabitants homes, and most circle around a central village hall, built in the remains of the most intact old ruin to act as a place of refuge during attacks. The primary source of these attacks is the local watchtower on a nearby hill - once built to protect the port, it has now turned into a haven for monsters and dark magics that threaten the poor, wretched souls which inhabit Akratia's Edge.

Steading Stats

The Edge is governed by the Embershroud Company
. It has a current workforce of 1.45 which means its rulers can direct the populace to work on 1 project at a time right now.

Along with its strong walls, extensive slums, and shoddy port accommodations, the only true building in the town is the Tavern, built before any of the Sparks arrived.

The Hot Pocket Tavern

Downtime and drink are essential to ease the stress of life on Akratia. This building features the only true "accommodation" currently in Akratia's Edge, and it is the regular haunt of Aurich Stovkin, given no guildhall for the Embershroud Company yet exists.
  • The Hot Pocket Tavern provides up to 1d4-1 Rumors each week as to events in and around the Edge for those that seek them out.
  • The owners of the tavern (The Embershroud Company) gain Advantage when attempting any Charisma action with those that regularly frequent the tavern.
  • If staffed full time by a skilled hireling (1-COIN/Day), Tavern will generate 2d10 kegs of Alcohol worth 10-COIN each every 30 days.
  • If staffed by two full time skilled hirelings (2-COIN/Day), Tavern will generate an additional income of 1d10 x 10 COIN every 30 days.
  • Additionally, if staffed full time by at least one skilled hireling (see above for cost), hireling will act as an Alcohol and Refreshment Vendor with stock that changes every week.
  • Other Tags:

    • Oath (Sovereign Isles): The Edge was founded on the promise that in return for exile (over death), the inhabitants would continually send scavenged relics back to the Isles - this relationship also provides the Edge with a steady stream of new inhabitants
    • History (Old Akran Port): The exiles of the Edge live in the ruins of a civilization far greater than even that of the Sovereign Isles - ancient history is all around them
    • Lawless: Crime would be rampant if there was anything to steal

    Delvings and Dungeons

The only dungeon thusfar discovered by the Embershroud Sparks is the Tangle. A series of twisting, winding earthen passages that held a trapped demon who powered anti-undead rituals to protect the city walls. Suffice to say, the demon is dead, and the hot springs beneath the town potentially open to use if some enterprising Council members decided to divert funds to the cause.
