Session 7 - Turnips, Thieves and Trust
General Summary
The party decided to offer their services to Farmer Holmes and his turnip theft problem. Just under a month ago one of his fields of turnips was emptied during the night. As a deterrent to any would be thieves he hired the Bloodhounds to guard his farms.
On the 15th of Duskmorn it was discovered that another field had been emptied and that the three bloodhounds who were stationed in it had been murdered. The party began the investigation two days later.
They discovered that the murder victims had been stabbed with blades coated in a powerful paralysis potion that worked instantly upon contact with the skin. Investigation into the spots where the murder happened found that all three people would have had line of sight to each other so must have been taken out in unison for then all to be taken by surprise. Additionally the only tracks found in the fields were of the patrolling Bloodhounds though nearby the party found disturbed areas in the brush that was likely used as hiding and observation points.
While at the farms the party questioned Farmer Holmes, his butler/right-hand man Johnathon and Trisbane, the leader of the Bloodhounds. Holmes and Trisbane appeared to have no knowledge of The Broken Trust, the group mentioned by the oracle when question on the turnip robbery. Johnathon recalled a news piece on such a group that existed 5-6 years prior but where shut down by the rangers, though word through the taverns and streets was that the Watchmen took care of them.
Farmer Holmes was convinced to leave one field less guarded as bait and the party set up a hidden watch point to stake that field out during the nights. No one was seen on the fields during the first night of stake out.
The party following up on the poison lead were directed to an elven man named Micnar who was a black-market alchemist. He was reluctant to reveal much at first but after a crossbow bolt to the hand from Ekta he became far more chatty. He revealed that the poison was called Weeping Lock and that he had sold 5 crates of it to The Broken Trust roughly two months prior and that they had paid him 30000 gold for it. He had done this without the approval of his higher ups in the Watchmen however so had to launder the money before he could make use of it.
Valeria looked into The Broken Trust at the party's request but found little information. From what she discovered The Broken Trust hadn't actually been wiped out but just mysteriously vanished one day. With the Rangers assuming the Watchmen were responsible and vice versa.
The Broken Trust originally operated out of a safe house known as The Hollow which was built into Akram's walls. Their known members six years ago were a dragonborn mage, an old tiefling who was suspected to also be a mage, a halfling who styled himself after the clerics of The Broken Jester though in a darker colour scheme, a orc, a couple of humans and a blind halfling.
The party plan on taking a trip to The Hollow as the next step of their investigation.
