Session 5 - Visions Beyond The Veil

General Summary

The party began the next leg of their investigation by visiting the Storm Spire and looking for an audience with the oracle. Hearing their request the Storm Monks and Oracle approved of it surprisingly quickly.

Meeting with the oracle the party managed to get a number of questions answered.

They learned that the crystal mind flayer was not a true illithid and that though he would cure Charles he had ulterior motives for doing so. They also learned that the knowledge of kyanite crystals was held not in a book but in a warforged, a relic of the old world.

They discovered that the mind flayer's transformation would eventually kill him or that removing the crystals and striking at the human beneath would also lead to his demise. With their final question they discovered that a group known as The Broken Trust were responsible for the ongoing turnip theft from Farmer Holmes.

Some research was done into warforged which reveal that the use of kyanite crystals for magical purposes began in a far off country but eventually reached most of the world. Gnomes in particular made many inventions with the use of the crystals including war machines.

Travelling to the Dragon Boneyard the party eventually found themselves in the veil. Here they crossed paths with two strange entities, The Judge and The Reaper. In exchange for being lead to the warforged an agreement with The Reaper was made that the mind flayer would be killed and the soul he had imprisoned would be set free.

Finally meeting the warforged, known as Shard who blamed himself for The Catacylsm as one of the first to really study and perfect kyanite crystals, the party convinced him to come to their aid making him see that there was more sense in facing the world and making up for his deeds with action over exile and punishment.
