Ironwood

"Hard as iron
Light as ash"

Properties

Material Characteristics

A dark grey wood with black grain, harvested from the ironwood tree.

Physical & Chemical Properties

Extremely hard, but very light. Armor and weapons forged from ironwood provide the same combat bonses and protection as their traditional metal counterparts. Additionally, heavy armor made with ironwood does not confer disadvantage on Dexterity checks. Unfortunately, this toughness makes the material very difficult to work with, nearly impossibly so for the untrained.

Compounds

Used for creating arms and armor, particulary for druids or others who are averse to using metal.

Geology & Geography

Once found in small groves throughout Akkadia, ironwood trees are now found exclusively within the center of the City, growing in a single meticulously-tended -- and zealously guarded -- copse.

Origin & Source

The ironwood tree is the only known source of this type of wood, and they currently only grow in the center of the City. They are tended by the last remaining Akkadian elves, who originally shared the secret of their use with humans.

Life & Expiration

Ironwood is resistant to natural decay, insects, and wet rot. If treated properly and oiled regularly, it can last for centuries.
Odor
Star anise and clove.
Taste
A bit like star anise with woody overtones. Nearly impossible to actually chew, let alone digest.
Color
Dark grey with black grain.
