Backgrounds
Citizens of the Imperium come from many backgrounds, but the list of available backgrounds has been customized to fit the style of this game. Several backgrounds are new, and some traditional backgrounds have been modified. If what you have in mind does not appear here, talk to the DM. Otherwise, choose from the backgrounds on this page and pick two Personality Traits, and one Ideal, Bond, and Flaw.
Choosing a background provides you with important story cues about your character’s identity. Who are you? Where do you come from? How were you raised? Where did you get the money to purchase your starting gear, or, if you come from a wealthy background, why don’t you have more money? How did you learn the skills of your class? What sets you apart from ordinary people who share your background?
The most important question to ask about your background is, what changed? Why did you stop doing whatever your background describes and set out on the road? In this game, everyone is running from something. What are you running from?
