Human

Humans are a sophont eohumanoid subspecies that can be found across almost all of Iaga, and one of the oldest and most common races in the realm. They're particularily notorious for being the founders of the Human Confederacy of Iaga, an alliance turned thalassocracy spanning the near-entirety of Iaga's northern hemisphere that was highly influential in the culture of the world's various civilizations.

Basic Information

Genetics and Reproduction

Like most other mammalian humanoids, humans are viviparous and copulation takes place via internal fertilization. The human gestation period typically lasts nine months.   Humans can produce fertile offspring with other medium-sized eohumanoid races, such as dwarves and grimlocks, as well as elves. Human-orc hybrids exist as well, though they tend to be infertile. Due to size differences, mating with races of significantly different sizes, such as halflings and giants, is uncommon and rarely sucessful in bearing a child. Like other eohumanoids, they are genetically incompatible with all goblinoids.

Additional Information

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Human's perceptive capabilities are fairly mundane, and they're one of the few known races that lack darkvision. Their primary sense is sight.

Civilization and Culture

Major Organizations

  • The kingdom of Levir, an oligarchy that once spanned a large part of what is now the Everfrost, in the continent of Valendar.
  • The Human Confederacy of Iaga, an alliance between several human states across the northern continents and islands of Iaga.

History

Humans are the first humanoid race known to have appeared in Iaga, around the year 3000 BHC, though how exactly they came to be is unknown. With time, humans spread around the world and developed into several other eohumanoid species: some races known to be direct evolutionary descendants of humans are proto-dwarves, grimlocks, proto-orcs and goliaths.
