The Oath of Eternal Silence

"I hereby swear, on whatever principle or higher being i believe in, to never speak a word of what I will see here among commoners.
With this oath I confirm that I am ready for the journey ahead and that, should I fail, my loved ones may never know my true fate.
I pledge that should I grow mad from the sights past the wall, I will allow the order to deprive me of my liberty.
I am now a member of the oathbound circle and will be until my dying day.
I will be brave.
I will be steadfast in the face of madness.
And most importantly, I will be silent, no matter what."

Purpose

The Oath of Eternal Silence as enforced by the Order of the Watchers, is a written and spoken oath (those incapable of speech are exempted from the spoken part) taken by those who decide to venture beyond the great walls acting as barriers between the mountain ranges full of Old Magic and the rest of the known world. What the oath actually refers to is of course unknown, as all who have taken the oath and return sane and alive have thus far kept their promise, with a great many even joining the order itself.
Those who return with a broken mind are sent to one of the Order's sanatoriums and are often kept there for most of their lives, though in rare cases patients have been taken home and taken care of by relatives or friends. Those who never return from the wall almost vanish entirely from existence, as if their companions return they most often never speak of them save for a vauge confirmation of death. Otherwise, they are often considered deceased and it is often uncertain wether the news ever even reaches those close to them.
Regardless, the mysteries behind the wall will remain as such as long as the oath is kept and the Watchers stand to enforce it. Only the Oathbound know, and the oathbound will not speak.
