The "New Earth" Biosphere

Welcome home.

This is the future. This is now. Be vigilant, Biospherians.   Nearly one-hundred years after the inception of the L.A.H, we are thriving as a community: away from Earth. As they say, nothing lasts forever. Earth had been bound to experience annihilation, and we had to move on. To make strides and advancements in our species, it was the only way. That's the final frontier of humanity, beyond both Earth and the ashes of disaster.

Demographics

The Biosphere is composed of different ethnic groups that once inhabited planet Earth. As the most wealthy and educated among a lottery of other individuals were chosen for colonization of the Biosphere, the ethnic composition could be considered rather homogeneous. However, in terms of ethnicity, each region of the world is represented among the population distribution. The L.A.H, along with various world powers met to plan the estimated diversity (considering those who were accepted) of the Biosphere to better represent the current diversity (circa 2150, when the first humans left) of Earth's population.
  • 38% Western European, 25% East Asian, 16% South Asian, 11% Middle Eastern/Northern African, 5% Western African, 3% Eastern European, 2% Latin American
The ethnic distribution is heavily based on who had the education/power/accolades to be accepted for such a program, excluding those who were accepted upon a lottery system. Biracial and multiracial people are very common due to the assimilation of society. Race does not carry much weight in post-Earth society. Gender is balanced, and also does not carry much weight in post-Earth society.

Government

The government takes a combined amount of systems that once dominated Earth. Because of the multinational influence on the biosphere, the government follows a unique system. Comparable to Earth governments, the government is described as a form of representative democracy. However, the government has large influences of authoritarianism. Information censorship is commonplace, and information shared among the population is filtered heavily. Citizens are taxed for their goods, taxes varying by region. There is a lot of give and take when it comes to the government, but citizens express complacency because they truly have no other options.

Defences

While citizens of New Earth do not worry about attack from external forces, safety between citizens are important. There are advanced security technologies in place to protect individual businesses and corporations, along with governmental buildings. New Earth has a military too, who are essentially the police force as New Earth has not encountered other species/extraterrestrials who would be an external threat. The Artemis Starships and Vanguard Starships are equipped with weaponry.

Industry & Trade

  • Production of spacecrafts, especially starships are a major economic factor between national sectors (the Biosphere's equivalent of countries).
  • Trade is heavily small scale, considering that connection with extraterrestrial life has not been established, but continues to be researched and understood as definitely out there (considering the Earth governments' involvement with Unidentified Aerial Phenomenon)

Infrastructure

  • Long-distance spacecraft of varying capacities
  • Large industrial farms
  • Large buildings that contain the modules for environmental simulation
  • Optimized roads for small-scale vehicles to roam, with air-travel being more common
  • Artificial oceans and other bodies of water
  • Aqueducts
  • Cities optimized for population density

Assets

  • Three massive-scale Artemis starships (long-distance)
  • Fifty smaller-scale Titan spacecraft (long-distance)
  • Twenty medium-scale Vanguard spacecraft (most modern technology)
  • Advanced vehicles
  • Advanced simulation technology, developed from what was left of the L.A.H
  • Hypersonic airplane technology, hypersonic commercial aircraft (only very few commercial aircraft on the Biosphere, starships can be used in atmosphere)
  • Environmental simulation
  • Water synthesis systems
  • Renewable energy using quantum-energy technology

Guilds and Factions

Governmental Organization

  • The New Earth Intelligence Agency
  • The New Earth Government (central governmental head)

State Jurisdictions

  • District A (the wealthy, metropolitan city area, most population dense)
  • District B (urban, industrial, dense population)
  • District C (suburban, semi-urban, small and distributed population )
  • District D (agrarian, rural region, smallest district and smallest population)
*Each district has a common name, but in legal and governmental writing they are referred to as "District (x)".

History

The L.A.H, after its failed Mars colony, wanted to further development of a off-planet way to sustain human life. With the discovery of alternative propulsion systems and the development of long-distance spacecraft in the late 2080s, and larger scale starships in the 2090s, the L.A.H knew they had no limits when it came to technology. The New Earth biosphere was constructed at the turn of the 22nd century and took around fifty years to complete. In order to sustain life, the L.A.H had to develop technology that would simulate the environment and synthesize water and oxygen. Many of these technologies had been budding for the better part of the 21st century, and the L.A.H took them and started development on the very first biosphere. Renewable energy was also an issue, and at the turn of the 22nd century renewable quantum-energy sources were discovered and used as the new energy source. All of these technological innovations led to the construction of New Earth, who received its first colonists in 2150. After the asteroid impact in 2175, New Earth was not on the collision course with the asteroid that impacted the planet. New Earth maintains an orbit around the sun as a planet-like mega-structure, remaining close to Earth's altered gravitational field.

Tourism

There's no one around to visit New Earth, and there are no alien civilizations that have made contact (as far as civilians know). The starships are not inhabited by people either. Tourism between districts is the most common form of tourism, however, most families just use simulation technology and virtual reality.

Architecture

The architecture of New Earth is heavily futuristic, and is a structure that was built with scientific efficiency in mind. While not for aesthetic purposes, the architecture of the biosphere is sleek, with glass panels that allow for viewing into outer-space beyond. Each panel is bound to one another with a highly durable metal, a combination of tungsten and steel manufactured to withstand a long period of time. Its cities could be described as having a cyberpunk aesthetic to it, but with a very sleek, simple, and utilitarian quality to the architecture. The biosphere has many areas with high population density, so there are many layers in the cities of New Earth.

Geography

The geography of the biosphere is artificially terraformed, and resembles many different regions of Earth. There is an artificial ocean that stretches across the western part of the biosphere, stretching towards the center through aqueducts that spread water evenly throughout. Most of the land is flat, and trees are planted in calculated zones. Most of the biosphere is urban or suburban, with the exception of the agrarian district (District D). It resembles Earth in an uncanny, futuristic way.

Natural Resources

All resources are artificially synthesized/simulated. Expeditions of both humans and robots have been set off-planet to Mars and the Moon for certain metals and other natural resources.
Does anyone realize that we'll have no where to go if this biosphere's simulation thing gets damaged?
