Xangui Xicariorum Assassins Guild , also called the Brotherhood

Founded in the years after the First Kingdoms War, the Xangui Xicariorum Assassins Guild became the counterpart to the Huntsmen of Aetheria. Sharing many magical traits and skills with the Huntsmen, the Assassins developed an even stricter training program and more specialized magic. They are expected to be able to cloak themselves in shadow, vanish from perception (even to a siren or oracle) and move or hid without being detectable by any magical means.   Though the benefits of joining the Xangui Xicariorum Assassins Guild is great, the risk is greater. There are no mediocre members. Novices who fail to advance are killed along with their "spouse equivalent". Their children are tested for potential then trained or given to the Temple of the Devourer for sacrifice. Guild Assassins have no family, parents, House, or Rank beyond what they earn through skill and death count. They are simply "of the Brotherhood" and hold no loyalty beyond that. While Masters are allowed to leave the Brotherhood, no one else is and to attempt to defect for any reason is punishable by having one's blood relatives bled for the altars and have their souls fed to the Devourer up to twice removed. An order given to an assassin by any member of the Royal House must be carried out without hesitation. Only Master Assassins may refuse to kill someone, unless the person demanded killed is of the high ranks of the Temple or Royal Court then only the Umbrarex or Cruorlena may give the order. The Umbrarex, Cruorlena, and Heir-vessels are the only people ALL Xangui Xicariorum Assassins are forbidden to kill.   The signature weapon is a half-serrated short sword. They also prefer throwing blades to long knives. They are required to master all weapons designed for a close kill because an assassin should be able to feel the warmth of their victim before they feel the wet of their blood.   If one owes a blood debt, they will die to repay it. If one comes after a person, they must kill them and the others that come after or find a way to mitigate the contract. The Guild is unconcerned with collateral damage unless the contract specifically demands no collateral deaths.

Owes Yurieth a blood debt, and Assassin Tenraul - Killed his spouse, Survived the escape of the Devourer with his sons and Xangriel, was then rescued by the Dark Oracle Fleur and blood pledged himself to her.     ~~~~ Excerpt from A Huntsman's Honor
“This is insanity, having an Assassin of the Xangui Xicariorum training our Huntsmen...” Guardian Voltais of the House of Vulca protested.
Master Huntsman Axion spoke next, “Voltais, there is almost no difference between Assassin Magic and Huntsman Magic, it is only the choice of the wielder's heart than makes it different.”
“Is it possible that this young Huntsman has some sort of hybrid magic? His mother is a Priestess Oracle, is she not?” A female asked. Yurieth's shock almost gave him away. He did not know women were allowed onto the battlefields.   “No, Maxsoni Calista, he has Huntsman's magic and some warrior magic. A descendant of his houses would be an Oracle, Healer or a warrior, not both. Oracles are never warriors.” Axion explained. “Though Master Huntsmen in some rare cases possess a type of healing magic, it is more to sustain a wounded comrade until they can heal or be healed rather than actually heal them.”
Metriel added, “In truth, we do not know what Yurieth is truly meant to be, but our concern is that his emotional temperament will make him vulnerable to the Darkness, because it makes him weak. It is why we have refrained from teaching him the most powerful arts of our talents.”   Yurieth slipped away, jumping from the open window to the street below, and retreated rapidly from the command building. Back in his own quarters, he did not to weep for the horrors he had seen, but because of his mentors' lack of faith in him. They were just like his father, saying encouraging words to his face, but without the conviction to tell him the truth of their concerns or teach him completely. He had just begun to believe in himself and trust that his mentors believed in his destiny, to hear their doubts and their conviction that he would fall into Darkness, hurt him deeply. He would never dishonor himself by becoming a shadowed one.
The young Huntsman felt his mentors returning and forced his body into a sleep like state. Doing the oracle meditations he learned as a child from his mother, Yurieth seemed deeply asleep when Metriel and Axion walked by his room and paused for a moment before continuing on. But in his mind, he folded his pain in upon itself and made a box to keep it in. If his mentors wanted him to be emotionless, he would be. He would turn his pain and outrage into cold action and honor. He would prove their concerns false and make them proud of him, and in adjunct, his father. He would show them just how wrong they were about the uses of Huntsmen's magic. Lord Yurieth of Adamos vowed he would evolve and recreate the role of Huntsmen in war.

Public Agenda

They serve Guild first, then the Royal House of the Umbrarex and Cruorlena.
Do not look at an assassin as they pass or you invite their blade to taste your blood. They are shadows and should not be noticed.

Assets

Unknown but possibly greater than the royal family and the Temple. All assets are held in common and the families of Xangui Xicariorum Assassins are provided a stipend as part of their reward until the spouse's death.
