Most Eligible Bachelor #1 Vole of Valent - Prompt #26 a romancer, paramour or other amorous individual (Voh-l)

Prompt #26 a romancer, paramour or other amorous individual – Most Eligible Bachelor #1 Vole of Valent   Vole is the grandson of the Master Captain Valent of the Aetherian Fishing Fleet, he comes from one of the few large families that survived Prince Damien's rule. Due to the families loyalty to Princess Allura, the family was rewarded with Valent becoming the name of a Ranked House. A one of the only adult single males, he was highly sought after. It didn't hurt that he had aquillian features, white blond hair and silver gray eyes. Until he married the Mazoni warrioress Meara Garrett, he remained #1 on the Most wanted Bachelors list, even though he never dallied with anyone. Meara was his sealed one (soul mate) and he knew it from the time she was 15. A century after her death, he remarried Fleet Commander Lilith when he returned to the Space Fleet after running the Oceania Fishing and crabbing fleet for a century after Meara's death.   On Aetheria… third year of resettlement.
It was the late winter festival. Shadz, Colby, and Vole were enjoying the feast when Lessa appeared, holding Asha. Lilith was mercilessly teasing her about having mommy issues, and she was arguing back that she was too young. Their young cousin, Rheema, was tagging along, but she looked very tired.
“Let’s find Mother or the Oracle, then we can go skating,” Lessa suggested.
“We can just take them with us,” Lilith insisted.
“It’s too cold,” Lessa argued, then she spied the young warriors eating.
“Shadz, you don’t plan on skating tonight, do you?” Lessa asked.
He snorted. “No,” he answered in his usual detached way.
Lessa grinned, “Remember, you owe me.”
His rusty red eyes narrowed as he looked up at her through the black spiky fringe of his bangs. Vole, Colby, and Lilith watched the exchange curiously. Lilith wondered what her quiet sister had done to get a favor from Stone Cold Shadz.
Shadz answered coolly, “Yes, I remember.” He already knew what she was about to ask. “Fine, but I need somewhere quieter than here.” No one knew he learned all he could about the care of children after the day he held Asha. He scanned the tent; there were cozy seating areas near the back with comfortable chairs and couches around small warming stoves.
“There,” he nodded, rising. Shadz took Asha from Lessa, carefully holding her like he had been holding infants his whole life.
“Gold! Thanks, Shadz. Rheema, stay with Shadz,” Leesa said, and she immediately grabbed Lilith’s hand and they bolted away, leaving their young cousin behind. Both loved to skate. The Mid-Winter Festival was the only time the twins got along, if it could be called that considering their normal state of sibling war.
“Come, Rheema. You can lay down.” Shadz suggested as he walked toward the back. Vole stared at his friend then followed. As Shadz settled onto a comfortable chair, baby Asha curled her fingers around his black ponytail and fell asleep. Rheema tiredly followed and flopped on a couch.
“I can’t believe you are babysitting!” Vole announced, shocked.
Shadz shrugged as if it was not unusual. Colby chuckled to himself, as they gathered in the cozy alcove. His best friend, Stone Cold Shadz was secretly a big softie; he had always suspected it.
“Hey, Rheema, would you like a mulled tea?” Colby asked the tired child, who looked up at him, her eyes were the same color as her cousin Lessa’s. She nodded sleepily.
“Vole? Shadz?” He asked.
“Yes, thank you,” Shadz answered.
Vole shook his head, “I need something that won’t make me sleepy. I have duty in two hours, so I think I’ll go skate for a while.” And he headed after the twins.
Colby grinned after him, then retrieved the cups. When he returned, he had a cup of steaming tea for each of them. Shadz nodded his thanks, careful not to hold the hot liquid too close to the baby.
“Does Vole really think he has a chance with Lilith the Red, since he left his sealed one on Terrearth?” Colby asked with a smirk. “I don’t think his charm will work against her swords.”
“Perhaps.” Shadz inclined his head, Colby’s ability to find the light side of every situation was the reason they were best friends. Rheema looked up from blowing on her cup of tea, “Lilith says he’s a paramour and he’s too pretty for a boy. I don’t know what that means. Does he pretend to be a girl?” she asked innocently.
Colby and Shadz couldn’t contain their laughter. Vole’s white-blond hair, strong features, and silver eyes had him at the top of the most eligible list, and he knew it, but Rheema’s query would entertain them for years. Vole, the pretty girl, it was gold.
Four centuries later…
Shadz snorted a laugh, “Our ‘pretty sister’ is not the only one who can be charming.”
Asha and Colby both burst out laughing as Shadz gave them one of his rare smiles.
“Is Vole ever going to live Rheema’s comment down?” Asha asked.
Colby and Shadz looked at her deadpan and answered as one, “No.”
Vole the pretty girl had been a joke among Colby and his three cousins, the twins Lars and Lance, and Shadz since the third year of the resettlement of Aetheria. His constant status in the top two on the most eligible bachelors list since the landing, did nothing to dissuade the teasing that had lasted centuries.

Moyra couldn’t quite figure him out. Daisy had said he was the equivalent of bachelor number one of the most eligible list back on Aetheria and he had a reputation of being charming to the point of being considered a player. However here, he seemed very shy, especially around her, shy to the point he would barely speak to her or look at her. All the other female interns and a few of the guys at ERI had a pool going as to who would get a date with him first, but he had politely declined everyone, preferring work or the solitude of Karstien’s home to a social life. He treated all of the girls respectfully, and her most of all. She wondered if it was because she was a warrior too. Moyra watched him unconsciously tie and untie a fisherman’s knot, while watching a sailboat.
A week later, Vole Varentson was enrolled in the late summer session at Grand Bay State College. Moyra thought it would be a good idea for him to get used to college life during a less busy semester. She took a few classes with him. One afternoon, they were watching some guys on the quad playing a game of touch football. Moyra introduced him as an exchange student working for her brothers-in-law’s company and they taught him the game. He was a natural. The next day after classes, he was throwing the football almost the length of the field to his new friends. The coach recruited him as a half-back, but he quickly was moved to starting quarterback. That fall, the tall, white blond-haired, silver-eyed freshman led the Suneagles to its first state championship. The next year, it was the nationals. The charismatic physics major was a welcome change to the school. His respectful manners and strict honor code inspired many around him to change how they acted toward each other, and the school was soon voted most congenial. His good looks made him a target of half the girls he met, until they discovered he was ‘dating and completely devoted to’ the National Women’s College Combat champion. A few still tried but were politely declined.
Moyra always laughed about it and his embarrassment at finding naked women in his room. She kept telling him he would get used to it, but he never did. They kept up the facade of dating, while remaining friends. Secretly, both were waiting for the end of the war to reveal their true feelings to each other. Then Graduation came and everything changed.

A drunken human girl in a Suneagles tank top staggered up to Yuri, she grinned at him, “Hey handsome, wanna party?” She rubbed her breasts against him in an inappropriate way. He froze, not sure how to react. He felt Vole behind him. “How about you?” the intoxicated blonde purred at Vole. Vole extracted Yuri from her grasp, saying in a smooth voice, “Thanks for the ask, babe, but sorry. We’re looking for our girlfriends. They’re models from the fashion shows. A beautiful girl like you would know where the Only Red booth is?” And he flashed her a perfect smile. “It’s that way, quarterback.” She giggled and pointed in the direction. “Thanks, gorgeous.” “If you can’t find them, come back and find me. Both of you.” She licked her lips suggestively, looking them from head to foot in a very obvious way. “Maybe we will.” Vole winked at her and drew Yuri away from the drunken girl. “Is this normal behavior for the females here?” Yuri growled in Aetherian under his breath to Vole. “Moyra kept telling me when we were in college, that I’d get used to it. I haven’t. Just be polite and charming, then walk away,” Vole advised.
