The Longest Journey -- Part 3
The Tarkani pulsed quietly that night. Monty stood on the bow of his ship, feeling the magic pulse around him. He could feel the magical current gently pulling his ship along. As he stared out into the vastness of dark space, a small glow appeared.
As the glow slowly began to brighten, Monty could feel the magic changing. It was extremely subtle, but for someone who had been traversing its current for years, the change was obvious. Something big was approaching.
Monty squinted and through the glow could just barely make out large, hulking shapes.
"You." Monty said, pointing at one of his crew, "Tell the pilot to prepare to turn to starboard."
"Aye." he said, and ran off toward the pilot.
Monty continued to stare at the glow. It was a soft and warm glow. It made him feel relaxed and happy. Through the light he could just barely see what the creature was. It was a pod of Nasima! Giant creatures that were all easily twice the size of his ship. They had large flippers and fins that allowed them to traverse through the Tarkani. The glow came from their magic.
Each Nasima had a special glow pattern that helped other members of the pod locate each other. It made most pods extremely close knit.
Monty stared at the giant creatures as they slowly passed by him. The light shining off the creatures making an array of pale yellows, bright oranges, and campfire reds. A Nasimae slowly passed over his ship, he stared up. It was a baby, but it easily drenched the entire ship in an orange hue.
Once the pod had passed, Monty felt a little bit honored that he was able to see such majestic creatures. Most captains never saw a pod of Nasima, despite sailing for years. Legend had it that only those who had been touched by the Atherim were able to see these creatures.
Monty doubted the legitimacy of that legend, but he was grateful nonetheless.
Sit down, my friend, and let me tell you of Aran'sha . A world where the sands shift and the stars sing, where the wind carries secrets and the twin moons keep silent vigil over it all.
