The Horneye

Originally, the Horneye was founded to provide many functions; it combined a lighthouse, fortification, and stable for messengers to travel from. While the Horneye initially survived the Cataclysm, unlike its occupants, the changes to the coastline and subsequent erosion have seen the outer walls crumble away and collapse into the sea since.

Defences

The outer walls remain, though the Horneye is exposed to oceanic access. Defensive weaponry is too decayed or salvaged to be used or stripped further, with any armouries inside long abandoned. Despite being untouched, time and salt air will have worked the weapons much as it has the outer metal.

Infrastructure

The remains of the lighthouse stretch up into the sky, weatherworn and salt-crusted blocks of stone resisting time and tide. The stables, though roofless, still endure as do the remains of the fortified grounds. The coastal edges of all the structures are heavily worn, more crumbled and collapsed the closer to the sea one moves.

Assets

Much of the deeper levels have remained untouched; drainage systems for rainwater have now allowed the waves and tides access to the interior, rust sealing the gates shut. With the interior in the same, or worse, condition, it's been abandoned and left from salvage searches.

History

Originally, only the lighthouse here was established, known as the Horneye Fires. As time passed, the isolated nature of the peninsula combined with ocean raids or attacks lead to the additional construction of the fort, housing soldiers to defend the immediate area while a stable provided for a number of mounted soldiers and messengers should a sizeable invasion descend.

Architecture

Built to military standards, the stonework has proved resistant to much of the corrosion and erosion that's afflicted the surrounding land. Even in those locations where the stonework has broken or collapsed, the surrounding structure still holds strong against the elements.

Geography

Surrounded by sand, stone and ocean, little is around the fortified area which can be considered habitable. Even the pathways to this location are almost lost amongst the sands, though it remains visible in the distance.
