The Old King's Return

The Aalarelai Myth of Old

C.R. Eede
Within the Summergloss fields of Aethel Caeloria is a huge statue known as H'ilvatruth. This statue bears all the Kings of Aethel Caeloria's past. The myth itself is thousands of years old, dating back to the first king of the kingdom, Miha Aalarelai during 2998 NE - 2397 NE.   It is said that during the King's fall, the Spirits of the Kings of Old will break from their Saer temples (H’ilvatruth) and fight with every last breath until the kingdom is free from the evil that controls it. Over the thousands of years, the high Elves believe this to be true because of the alignment of statues found within the Summergloss fields. It is difficult to know whether there is validity to this. The only object to come from this tale is ‘Nithavideon,’ which is the King’s sword.

Summary

Within the Summergloss fields of Aethel Caeloria is a huge statue known as H'ilvatruth. This statue bears all the Kings of Aethel Caeloria's past. The myth itself is thousands of years old, dating back to the first king of the kingdom, Miha Aalarelai during 2998 NE - 2397 NE.   Upon Miha Aalarelai's passing in 2397 NE and Jujinal Aalarelai's Coronation, the elves of the kingdom began to rumour at the King's return after the construction of the H'ilvatruth statue within the Summergloss fields in 2990 NE.   The key concept of this myth is that each King of Aethel Caeloria throughout the ages will return from their stone slumbers and lead the Varcanai Guard against the Ashen as summoned by the Forsaken and bring about an end to their chaos and destruction.

Historical Basis

Thie historical basis of this myth derives from the Passing of Miha Aalarelai who was fondly thought of by his people and dearly loved. Even though he was more of a lover, he did whatever he could to protect his people, and after the death of his daughter, Tiviya, he swore that he will return one day to avenge her spirit and those who have lost loved ones to their enemies.

Spread

The Myth is widely known throughout all the lands of Aethel Caeloria, but a few other kingdom leaders are also vaguely aware of the myth; however, not being able to recall every detail. Those who dabble in knowledge are well-versed in these myths, such as the Promised Heralds and even military veteran groups such as the Bronze Cardinals of Galsra.

Variations & Mutation

After the War of Faiths, Inconsolable Forlorn in 2 VO, the elves of Aethel Caeloria changed the myth and mutated it so that the Old King's Return would fight alongside the Royal Bloodline of Aalarelai against the Forsaken instead of their general enemies. Over time, everyone started to believe this and it became the modernised myth giving Aethel Caeloria hope that when their end comes, the King's will return to fight alongside them one last time.

Cultural Reception

Other cultures don't pay much attention to the myths of Aethel Caeloria, so it doesn't affect them. While some elves are interested and want to learn more, they often can't because the kingdom is off-limits unless they are hosting a special occasion.

In Literature

There is no literature surrounding this myth, it was only through word of mouth that this myth was spread.

In Art

Within Silencium, a painter by the name of Carlaya Perial used watercolours to capture what the Old King's Return may look like if it were ever to come to life. In 999 VO, she painted and named it, 'The Wonder of Royalty.' From that point on, elves have pondered the painting wondering if it would ever happen.
