The Unforging

An Historical Timeline of Old Oniron and the Time of The Unforging:   Over 1,000 years ago peoples (humans) of Oniron began building empires in the midst of Elves, Dwarves, and Gnomes, who were the original inhabitants of the world - along with orcs, goblins, and giant-kind who held that they were the true first inhabitants and the others unwelcome invaders. Over the 1,000 years, the wars that ensued absorbed empires and eradicated others. Demi-humans remained separated from humans, viewing them as warlike and unstable, and often blaming them for stirring up conflicts with giant-kind and humanoids. At the end of 1,000 years, dragons once again appeared on Oniron, bringing civilization and magic to humans, while warning of dark times ahead.   0 U.F. - The hero king Ereconix the Great and his forces fight The Great Destroyer (Yldressthaxx, Destroyer of Men, “Doom of Oniron”). Both were destroyed in an epic battle at the end of the 15-year cataclysm, which saw the people of the continent of Oniron flee New Oniron and then Rivenfall. The forces of Yldresthaxx fled to their dark caverns. The Band of Ereconix (known as “The Martyr Band”) was never heard of again. This great cataclysm became known as "The Unforging", as it was the unforging of Oniron by the great war between men and the dark forces invading the land. Humans are nearly driven from the land, but defeat the forces of the dragon Yldressthaxx. Many demi-humans aid humans, while others choose to turn a blind eye to their plight.   35 U.F. - The first known worship of Ereconix the Great occurs after his sacrifice and sainthood. His warrior-priests form a loosely organized worship of the saint and worship spreads. During this time, the worship of Ithea also begins to take hold among the common people following visions and miracles from a young girl.   Prior to The Unforging, the Arcanum of Kresinor is built to house arcane knowledge and wonders taught to humankind by dragons. The Arcanaeum is plundered during the Unforging, along with Kresinor, and is literally wiped from the map of Oniron.   Magic becomes regulated following The Unforging out of fear of its misuse. The Royal Censorate is formed, made up of magi and high clergy, to regulate its use. Many are persecuted simply for being magi or having natural magical talent.   The clans of the Northern Holds open trade with Rivenfall for the first time.
