Dragonspire Wyverns

The Dragonspire Wyvern is an apex predator found specifically in the Dragonspire Mountain Range spanning several provinces, including the Eastern regions of the Shield Lands, Gashendor, and Aquendor.   Dragonspire Wyverns were studied extensively by the wizard Mithroaz the Great, who created the magical Wyvern Orb to attract the creatures in order to study them and extract their poison. The Dragonspire Wyvers are known to have several species making their home in the great peaks:   MOUNTAIN WYVERN Mountain Wyverns make their home in the high peaks of the Dragonspires. They are large creatures with ancient ties to dragons, it is said. Mountain Wyverns make their homes in caves. They have a large hunting territory and often keep 3-5 caves, which are marked by scent. Mountain Wyverns travel from cave to cave as the weather changes or their prey migrates. Mountain Wyverns are roughly the size of a large warhorse when fully grown. It is said that older Mountain Wyverns have gained the ability to change their natural camouflage, making them even deadlier adversaries. The creatures tend to hunt in the high mountains and stay away from humans, but that is not always the case. In times of famine or when food becomes scarce, they have been known to venture near or into human lands to hunt livestock and horses, and even humans. Mountain Wyverns have exceptional vision and prefer to hunt at night, where they glide silently high above their prey, diving in for the kill with its powerful jaws or grabbing prey with taloned claws and dropping it against rocks.   CLIFF WYVERN Cliff Wyverns are the smallest of wyverns, measuring only 2-3' in length from snout to tail. Although they are the smallest wyverns, their paralysis poison is particularly strong. Cliff Wyverns are typically found as a mated pair, which stay together in the same roost for life. They may be accompanied by 1-2 hatchling Cliff Wyverns, which are half the size of their parents or smaller. Cliff Wyverns make their homes in cliffs or steep rocks, and thus do not have many natural enemies that raid their nests. Their normal attack pattern is to ambush animals such as wild goats that will fall to their death after being paralyzed, only to become food for the wyverns and their young. They have the ability to take on the color of their surroundings and, when hunting, remain motionless along steep rock cliffs until prey happens along. If a Cliff Wyvern is motionless it is difficult to detect (-2 to detect with Perception check DC 14).
